Baseball Blanked Twice At Farmingdale State

Keenan fanned five in game one

Farmingdale, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Baseball team closed the conference schedule on Sunday afternoon with a pair of shutout losses to Farmingdale State, falling 3-0 and 6-0 to the Rams. Freshman Jack Goodwin (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) finished game one with two hits, while senior Blake Keenan (Fishkill, N.Y.) struck out five.
 
Game 1: Farmingdale State 3 – Mount Saint Mary 0
The only runs of the opener came in a three run sixth inning for the Rams, as they scored a trio of runs on three hits. Joseph Roche tripled home the first two runs with no one out in the inning and Shawn Blasberg laid down a squeeze bunt to deliver Roche with the final run of the game.
 
Mount Saint Mary was outhit in the opener 7-4 and had a runner reach scoring position just four times, including in the third when Goodwin led off the frame with a double and then was cut down at the plate following a Nick Rizzo (Smithtown, N.Y.) single up the middle.
 
Goodwin finished the game 2-for-4 with Rizzo and Chris McLaren (Cornwall-on-Hudson, N.Y.) recording the other hits in the game.
 
Keenan suffered his first loss of the season and fell to 5-1 on the year. He worked a solid 6.0 innings, allowing three runs on six hits. He struck out five and walked only one for the Knights. David Otero earned the win for the Rams, working 6.2 innings as he moved to 4-1. Ryan Mallon earned his third save of the year with a scoreless inning of relief.
 
Game 2: Farmingdale State 6 – Mount Saint Mary 0
The Rams got the scoring started early in game two, plating three runs in the first and another in the fourth to open an early 4-0 lead. Blasberg drove in a run with a single in the first with Vincent Rice later scoring on a fielder's choice to finish off the scoring in the first. Tyler Schrimpf scored the fourth run in the second, crossing on an Ernie Geraci single.
 
Farmingdale State spread its lead to the final six run advantage in the sixth with two more runs. Anthony Gigante scored on a throwing error before Nicholas Soriano crossed on a run scoring single off the bat of Brandon Ernest.
 
The Rams finished with a 9-5 advantage in hits with five different Knights recording a safety. Keenan doubled for the Knights with Nick Rizzo and Anthony Rizzo (Smithtown, N.Y.) also singling for the Mount.
 
Jake Stewart (Wallkill, N.Y.) suffered the loss and fell to 3-3 on the season. He worked 5.2 innings, surrendering four earned runs on nine hits. Matthew Constantine earned the complete game win for the Rams, striking out three.
 
Saturday's sweep drops Mount Saint Mary to 21-10-1 overall on the season and to 13-5 in Skyline Conference play. The Knights will open play in the Skyline Conference Championship on Wednesday.
