Purchase, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Lacrosse team won its second straight contest on Saturday with a 16-9 road win at Purchase.
Liz Halpin (LaGrangeville, N.Y.) led the scoring attack with four goals with
Morgan Pavlik (Monroe, Conn.) winning seven draw controls.
The Knights started in strong fashion on Saturday, scoring four times over the first seven minutes of play.
Olivia Green (Ballston Lake, N.Y.),
Courtney Condron (Franklin Square, N.Y.),
Alyssa DiMare (Staten Island, N.Y.) and Halpin all tallied to push the Mount in front 4-0.
Purchase rallied with three of the next four goals to pull to within 5-3, but the Mount finished off the half with a 4-1 scoring run to carry a 9-4 lead into the intermission. Green scored twice over the run, with DiMare assisting on a pair of goals.
Mount Saint Mary outshot Purchase 19-11 in the first half, including 17-8 in shots on goal. Draw controls were even at seven at the break, while the Knights won the groundball battle prior to the break, 11-1.
The Mount scored five of the first six goals of the second half to open a 14-5 lead and answered a three goal run from the Panthers with back-to-back goals from Halpin and
Christina Ryan (Franklin Square, N.Y.) to open a 16-8 advantage with 5:25 left to play.
Halpin paced the scoring attack with four goals and chipped in with two groundballs, two caused turnovers and four draw controls. Green and Ryan each scored three times for the Knights with Pavlik and DiMare rounding out the day with a goal and two helpers. Pavlik led the team with seven draw controls with Condron causing three turnovers and adding two goals.
Purchase received five goals from Kelly Turtell and joined Astrella Dacosta with five draw controls. Allyson Wong caused two turnovers and picked up two groundballs for the Panthers.
Amanda Picillo (Valley Stream, N.Y.) picked up the win in goal for the Knights, making four saves and adding a groundball and a caused turnover. Wong suffered the loss with 10 saves for Purchase.
Mount Saint Mary finished the day with a 33-19 advantage in shots, including a 26-13 edge in shots on goal. The Knights dominated groundballs 18-6 and posted a slim 14-13 advantage in draw controls. Mount Saint Mary went a perfect 11-for-11 in clearing chances on the day.
Saturday's win pushes Mount Saint Mary to 7-6 overall on the season and to 4-2 in Skyline Conference play. The Knights finish off the regular season on Tuesday when they play host to the United States Merchant Marine Academy. Opening Draw with the Mariners is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
