Riverdale, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Lacrosse team scored an important Skyline Conference win on Wednesday afternoon, topping the College of Mount Saint Vincent on the road by a score of 16-5. Senior
Christina Ryan (Franklin Square, N.Y.) led the scoring attack with six points.
The Knights opened the game up early, scoring the first five goals of the contest.
Courtney Condron (Franklin Square, N.Y.) opened the scoring just over a minute into the contest and added her second of the game at the 14:21 mark of the first half to five the Mount a 5-0 advantage.
Mount Saint Mary held the Dolphins off the board until the 12:44 mark of the opening stanza and answered with consecutive goals from
Morgan Pavlik (Monroe, Conn.) and Ryan to open a 7-1 lead with 4:39 left before halftime.
Mount Saint Mary used a 24-9 advantage in shots prior to halftime to carry a 7-3 lead into the intermission. Groundballs went to the Mount in the first half, 12-11, with the Knights winning seven raw controls in the opening 30 minutes.
Maggie Pedersen (Glasco, N.Y.) and
Allison Dionne (Burlington, Conn.) scored coming out of halftime to give the Knights a 9-3 lead and after Meg Merrell scored for the Dolphins, Mount Saint Mary scored seven straight to pull in front 16-4 with 2:20 left in regulation time. Ryan scored three times and assisted on a fourth goal over the run.
With five goals and six points, Ryan moved her team lead in both categories to 40 and 48 on the season. She finished off a strong game with four groundballs for the Knights.
Condron and Pavlik each scored twice in the win with
Olivia Green (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) scoring a goal and posting an assist. Pedersen added three groundballs and three caused turnovers to her goal with
Meghan Cumming (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) causing a team-high five turnovers and
Liz Halpin (LaGrangeville, N.Y.) winning eight draw controls.
Junior
Amanda Picillo (Valley Stream, N.Y.) picked up the win in goal with nine saves to go along with a caused turnover, while Allyson Weakliem stopped 19 shots in the loss for Mount Saint Vincent.
Mount Saint Mary finished the day with the advantage in shots 42-16, shots on goal 35-14, groundballs 19-18 and draw controls 12-9.
At 6-6 overall on the season and 3-2 in Skyline Conference play, Mount Saint Mary travels to Purchase for a 12:00 p.m. draw with the Panthers on Saturday afternoon.
