Bronxville, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Men's Tennis team posted its second straight 9-0 conference win and the third sweep in its last four outings on Wednesday, blanking league rival Sarah Lawrence. A trio of Knights, including
Matt Anastasi (Salisbury Hills, N.Y.), picked up their 10
th singles win of the season.
Anastasi moved to 10-3 on the season at the top flight for the Knights, cruising to a 6-1, 6-0 win against the Gryphons on Wednesday.
Chris McGorty (Bellmore, N.Y.) also reached double figures in wins this season with a 6-4, 6-1 second singles win and freshman
Jaden Tiriolo (Cheshire, Conn.) blanked his opponent at the fourth position to move to 10-3 on the season.
Junior
Shane Terry (Southampton, N.Y.) improved to 7-5 on the season with a 6-2, 6-2 win at the third position, with
Charles Benfer (Milton, N.Y.) collected his second straight win after blanking his opponent at the fifth slot.
Armando Avila (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) took his sixth single match by default on Wednesday.
Mount Saint Mary surrendered just two games over the three doubles matches against the Gryphons. The top pair of Anastasi and McGorty as well as the third pair of
Joe Ryan (Wantagh, N.Y.) and
Matt Gallo (Clark, N.J.) won by 8-0 scores, while the middle duo of Triolo and Benfer dispatched their opponents by a score of 8-2.
Wednesday's win improves Mount Saint Mary to 8-5 overall on the season and to 4-1 in Skyline Conference play. Next up for the Knights is a home match with Yeshiva on Friday morning. Match time with the Maccabees is scheduled for 11:30 a.m.
