Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Men's Tennis team dropped a spirited 7-2 decision to visiting Yeshiva on Friday morning. The Mount received singles wins on Friday from senior
Matt Anastasi (Salisbury Hills, N.Y.) and freshman
Matt Gallo (Clark, N.J.).
Anastasi won his team leading 11
th singles match of the season at the first position Friday against the Maccabees. He scored a hard fought 6-4, 6-7, 10-8 win for the Knights. Gallo scored his third win of the year for the Mount, outlasting his opponent at the sixth singles position by scores of 6-3, 6-7 (10-12), 10-8.
Mount Saint Mary also received a strong singles performance from
Jaden Tiriolo (Cheshire, Conn.), who was topped at the fourth position by scores of 4-6, 6-4, 10-5.
In doubles play, the first and third pairs were edged for Knights on Friday. Anastasi and
Chris McGorty (Bellmore, N.Y.) dropped a tough 8-6 decision at the first slot, while
Shane Terry (Southampton, N.Y.) and Gallo were edged 9-7 at the third position.
Friday's loss drops Mount Saint Mary to 8-6 overall on the season and to 4-2 in Skyline Conference play. Next up for the Knights is a trip to Farmingdale State on Saturday for a 12:30 p.m. match with the Rams.
