Women’s Lacrosse Tripped Up At St. Joseph’s-L.I.

Pavlik posts four points, Halpin wins 12 draws

Patchogue, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Lacrosse team continued Skyline Conference play on Saturday, falling on the road at St. Joseph's-L.I. by a score of 19-9. Freshman Morgan Pavlik (Monroe, Conn.) totaled four points in the game, while sophomore Liz Halpin (LaGrangeville, N.Y.) won 12 draw controls.
 
Tightly contested through the first 15 minutes of action, the Golden Eagles broke open a 3-2 contest with a 9-2 run to take a 12-4 lead into halftime. Following back-to-back goals from Chelsea Henke (Pawling, N.Y.) and Christina Ryan (Franklin Square, N.Y.), just over a minute apart, the Knights were held to just two goals over the final 18 minutes of the first half.
 
The Knights were outshot 20-11 over the opening 30 minutes of action, with the Golden Eagles taking a 12-7 edge in groundballs into the intermission. Draw controls went to the Knights prior to the break 12-5.
 
St. Joseph's continued its run coming out of halftime, scoring the first three goals of the second half to spread its lead to 15-4. The Knights got on the board at the 23:45 mark of the second half on a Pavlik tally, but would never pull closer than nine goals in the second half.
 
Pavlik, Ryan and Halpin each scored twice for the Knights, with Pavlik adding a pair of assists and Halpin totaling three points. Halpin continued her strong play in draw controls with a game-high 12 for the Knights on Saturday.
 
Henke and Brynn Mulcahy (Wantagh, N.Y.) each led the Mount with three groundballs in the game, with Mulcahy, Henke and Meghan Cumming (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) each causing two turnovers. Senior Morgan Cordes (Sound Beach, N.Y.) added six draws for the Knights.
 
St. Joseph's was led by five goals and seven points from Lauryn Gregson with Ally Johnston adding five goals and Nicole Stoppelli scoring a goal and assisting on three. Stoppelli finished off a strong game with three caused turnovers and four draw controls.
 
Amanda Picillo (Valley Stream, N.Y.) suffered the loss with four saves in just under 41 minutes of work, with freshman Jackie Finkel (Warwick, N.Y.) coming on to make two saves for the Knights. Lindsay Ramos stopped 12 shots for the Golden Eagles.
 
Overall, St. Joseph's held the advantage in shots 30-25, shots on goal 25-21 and groundballs 22-14. Mount Saint Mary dominated draw controls 22-8.
 
Saturday's loss drops Mount Saint Mary to 5-6 overall on the season and to 2-2 in Skyline Conference play. The Knights will look to stop a two game slide on Wednesday when they travel to the College of Mount Saint Vincent. Opening Draw with the Dolphins is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
