Emerson, Ga. – The Mount Saint Mary College Baseball team took on Kalamazoo twice in Georgia Tuesday evening, settling for a split with the Hornets.
Christopher Introcaso (Newburgh, N.Y.) drove in two runs in a 6-3 game one win and delivered the only run of a 10-1 game two loss.
Game 1: Mount Saint Mary 6 – Kalamazoo 3
After each team scored a run in the its first at-bat in the opener, the Knights jumped in front 3-1 with a pair of runs in the top of the fourth inning. The Knights took advantage of two hits and three walks in the inning, with
Steven Bauer (Goshen, N.Y.) drawing a bases loaded walk to deliver the inning's first run and
Kevin Edgar (Southampton, N.Y.) driving in
Blake Keenan (Fishkill, N.Y.) with an infield single.
The advantage grew to 6-1 in the sixth inning when the Mount strung together three hits, including a two-run double off the bat with Introcaso. Keenan followed with a two-out run scoring single that closed out the scoring in the game for the Mount.
Mount Saint Mary outhit Kalamazoo 8-7 in the game, with Introcaso going 2-for-3 with a run, double and RBI.
Nick Rizzo (Smithtown, N.Y.) finished with a hit and two runs scored, while Keenan and
Anthony Rizzo (Smithtown, N.Y.) both finished with a hit and a run scored.
Junior
Christian Spano (Mahopac, N.Y.) picked up the win in game one with 4.1 innings of work. He surrendered a single earned run on four hits and five walks in moving to 2-0 on the season.
Michael DiGiovanni (Shirley, N.Y.) allowed two runs in 2.0 innings, with
Nick Zestanakis (Bayside, N.Y.) earning the save with 0.2 innings of scoreless relief.
Game 2: Kalamazoo 10 – Mount Saint Mary 1
After Kalamazoo opened the scoring with a single run in the third inning, the Mount came right back and evened the score at 1-1 in the top half of the fourth. After Rizzo walked and moved up on a wild pitch and groundout, Introcaso drove in his third run of the day with a groundout to produce the Knights' only run of the contest.
The Hornets broke the game open with five runs in the home half of the inning and tacked on four runs in the fourth to finish of the scoring. Andre Gard drove in two runs with a triple in the big fourth inning and added a two-run double in the fifth.
Gard finished 2-for-2 for the Hornets with a run and four driven in with Chase Coselman adding two hits, a run and two RBI. John Kunec earned the win on the mound with four strikeouts in 4.0 innings, with Jack Tagget coming on for the 3.0 inning save, allowing just one hit and fanning four.
Bauer and
Steven Mirra (Wallingford, Conn.) recorded the only hits for the Mount in game two with Rizzo scoring his 11
th run of the year and Introcaso driving in his team leading 10
th run of the season.
John Santana (Warwick, N.Y.) suffered the loss after allowing five runs on three hits in 3.2 innings of work, with
James McCleary (Floral Park, N.Y.) working 1.2 innings of scoreless relief for the Knights.
At 6-5 overall on the season, Mount Saint Mary and Kalamazoo play the rubber game of their three game set on Wednesday. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
