Edwardsville, Pa. – The Mount Saint Mary College Men's Lacrosse team won its third straight game on Tuesday night with a 16-8 road win at Wilkes. Four different Knights scored at least two goals in the game, including senior
Dylan De Meo (Franklin Square, N.Y.) who finished the night with nine points.
Mount Saint Mary never trailed in the game and used a seven goal run to end the second stanza to build a 10-3 halftime advantage. Following a Mathew Bush goal for Wilkes that tied the score at 3-3, the Knights scored seven straight, including two goals from
Richard Maher (Mount Sinai, N.Y.). De Meo supported the run with five assists.
At the break, Mount Saint Mary held a 17-11 overall edge in shots and a 12-5 advantage in shots on goal. The Knights finished the half with three more groundballs than Wilkes, finishing with 19 in the opening 20 minutes, and posted an 8-6 edge in face-offs.
Mount Saint Mary outscored Wilkes by a goal over the final 30 minutes, but never let the Colonels closer than six goals after halftime. The lead bulged to a game-high nine goals when
Billy Holland (Pearl River, N.Y.) capped a four goal run with 5:44 left to play to give the Knights a 16-7 lead.
De Meo finished the night with a season-high nine points, scoring twice and assisting on seven goals. De Meo has registered at least five points in the team's last four games and leads the team in assists with 29 and points with 48. He rounded out the night with eight groundballs and a caused turnover.
Senior
Tristan Earle (Millrift, Pa.) tallied four times and recorded five points in the win with Mahar scoring three times and
Nicholas Graziano (Franklin Square, N.Y.) netting two goals.
Kenneth Gallagher (Northport, N.Y.) joined De Meo with eight groundballs and finished 15-for-24 in face-offs.
Wilkes was led by four goals from Nicholas Ruggiero and got eight groundballs from J.T. Weitzel. Evan Stolicker led the Colonels with seven face-off wins on the night.
Christopher Doerr (Pleasantville, N.Y.) picked up his sixth win of the season and made a pair of saves in 30 minutes of work on Tuesday.
Eli Laikin (Oak Bluffs, Mass.) came on to play the second half and posted nine stops for the Knights. Cody Geidel made five of the Colonels seven saves in the game.
Overall, Mount Saint Mary outshot Wilkes 35-29 including a 23-19 edge in shots on goal. The Knights won the groundball battle 39-34 and won 15 of the 26 face-offs contested. The Knights finished 17-for-23 in clearing chances and scored twice with the man advantage.
At 6-4 overall on the season, Mount Saint Mary returns to Skyline Conference play on Thursday when it travels to Purchase for a 7:00 p.m. face-off with the Panthers.
