Newburgh, N.Y. – Senior
Christina Ryan (Franklin Square, N.Y.) continued the strong start to the season with seven goals and
Courtney Condron (Franklin Square, N.Y.) recorded six assists as the Mount Saint Mary College Women's Lacrosse team got back into the win column with a 17-12 non-conference home win over Wilkes on Saturday afternoon.
After Wilkes moved in front 3-2, the Knights scored three straight goals to move in front 5-3 with 15:59 left in the first half. Wilkes responded with two straight to knot the score at five before the Mount used a 7-1 run to surge in front 12-6 at the intermission. Ryan led the first half attack with five goals for the Mount.
Mount Saint Mary held a 17-10 edge in shots at the break and doubled up the Colonels in groundballs 14-7, with Wilkes holding a 10-9 advantage in draw controls.
Mount Saint Mary moved in front by nine goals twice in the second half once on a
Liz Halpin (Lagrangeville, N.Y.) goal that pushed the Knights in front 16-7 and again on a Ryan marker that moved the Mount in front 17-8 with 14:22 left in regulation.
Leading by nine goals with under 10 minutes left, the Knights saw Wilkes score four goals in the final 9:26 to slice the final deficit to the final 17-12 decision.
Ryan continued her strong offensive play with seven goals and eight points, moving her team lead to goals to 15 and in points with 19. Condron assisted on six goals and leads the team in the category with seven with
Olivia Green (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) adding five points and
Morgan Cordes (Sound Beach, N.Y.) scoring three goals.
Cordes led the team with four groundballs in the game and won two draw controls, with
Hope Blanc (Wantagh, N.Y.) winning five draw controls and adding a goal and an assist.
Wilkes was led by five goals from Ashley Burkhardt with Kyra Boccio scoring three times and assisting on four goals. Boccio won a game-high seven draw controls, with Kylie Bedwell securing five groundballs.
Amanda Picillo (Valley Stream, N.Y.) picked up the win in goal for the Mount with six saves to go along with two groundballs and a caused turnover. Wilkes used a pair of goalies with Sarah Carlini and Melania Velasquez each making four saves.
Mount Saint Mary finished with a slim 29-24 advantage in shots to go along with a 24-20 edge in groundballs and a 16-15 edge in draw controls. Mount Saint Mary finished the day 21-for-23 in clearing chances.
At 2-2 overall, Mount Saint Mary closed a five game home stand to open the season on Wednesday when it plays host to Ramapo. Opening Draw is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
