Knights Drop Last Second Heartbreaker To Ramapo

Halpin, Ryan each score three times

Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Lacrosse team dropped the final game of a season opening five game home stand on Tuesday with Ramapo scoring with one second left in regulation, clipping the Knights 11-10. Sophomore Liz Halpin (LaGrangeville, N.Y.) and senior Christina Ryan (Franklin Square, N.Y.) led the scoring attack with three goals apiece.
 
Tightly contested throughout, the largest lead of the game was two goals, which the visitors held four times. The Mount took its first lead of the game when Ryan opened the second half scoring to give the Knights a 5-4 advantage with just under 26 minutes left to play. The goal capped a three goal run that was started prior to halftime that saw the Mount rally from a 4-2 deficit.
 
Ramapo answered the Mount's three goal run with one of its own to move back in front 7-5 on an Ava Rinaldi tally with 17:39 left in regulation. The Mount answered with five of the next seven goals to grab a 10-9 lead on a Halpin tally with 2:13 left in the second half.
 
Trailing by a goal late in the second half, the Roadrunners got the game even on a Gabi Davidson tally with the man advantage in the final minute and grabbed the final one goal advantage on a Rinaldi marker with one second left to play.
 
Ryan led the Knights with four points, assisting on Halpin's third goal of the game, with Halpin rounding out the night with four groundballs, two draw controls and a pair of caused turnovers. Chelsea Henke (Pawling, N.Y.) closed a strong night with two goals, a groundball, caused turnover and draw control.
 
Morgan Pavlik (Monroe, Conn.) paced the Mount with three draw controls in the game with Maggie Pedersen (Glasco, N.Y.) adding a pair of draws and a groundball. Courtney Condron (Franklin Square, N.Y.) assisted on two goals, moving her team lead in the category to nine.
 
Ramapo was led by two goals from a trio of players and a goal and four helpers from Colleen Manely. Alyssa Tachon added a marker and three assists for the Roadrunners with Davidson and Tachon each winning six draw controls.
 
Amanda Picillo (Valley Stream, N.Y.) suffered the tough luck loss in goal for the Knights, making a season-high 14 saves to go along with three groundballs. Monica Bubello earned the win with five stops for Ramapo.
 
For the game, Ramapo finished with the advantage in shots 29-18, shots on goal 25-15, groundballs 23-22 and draw controls 14-8. The Roadrunners were 13-for-17 in clearing chances, while the Knights went 17-for-28.
 
At 2-3 overall on the season, Mount Saint Mary plays its first road game of the season on Saturday when it travels to Southern Virginia. Opening Draw in Buena Vista, Va. Is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
