Tyler McDine (Suffern, N.Y.) led four players in double-figures with 23 points with classmates
Gerard Nocera (Holmdel, N.J.) and
Daniel Wolff (Holtsville, N.Y.) each adding 16 points as the Mount Saint Mary College Men's Basketball team picked up a key 81-72 road win at Sarah Lawrence Thursday night.
Mount Saint Mary used a 12-2 run to break a 17-17 tie and move in front 29-19 on a Nocera three-pointer with 6:30 left in the first half and grabbed a half-high 12 point lead twice in the final five minutes of the opening stanza.
Connor Bacci (Bayside, N.Y.) moved the Knights in front 33-21 with 4:44 left on a layup and a three-pointer from Wolff in the final minute of the half sent the Mount to the intermission with a 40-28 advantage.
The Knights shot an efficient 55.2-percent from the floor over the opening 20 minutes and knocked in six of their 15 three-point attempts. Sarah Lawrence shot an even 50-percent, but made four fewer field goals than the Knights. Nocera and Wolff led all players at the break for the Mount with 12 points apiece.
Sarah Lawrence came out of the intermission on fire, outscoring the Mount 24-11 over the opening 7:06 of the second half to surge in front 52-51 on an Enike Anyia lay-in with 12:54 left in regulation time. The Gryphons moved in front 63-60 on a Malin Segal three-pointer, before the Mount put together a 10-2 spurt to move in front 70-65 on a Bacci free-throw with 5:35 left to play.
Sarah Lawrence would get back to within two points on a three-point play from Anyia, but the Mount scored nine of the final 13 points of the game to hold off the Gryphons. A
T.J. Patsalos (Newburgh, N.Y.) jumper gave the Mount a 79-71 lead with 2:30 left to play and a Bacci conversion with 72 seconds left gave the Knights an 81-71 lead.
Both teams shot well in the second half, with the Knights converting at 53.1-percent and the Gryphons shooting a blistering 64.3-percent. Anyia netted 16 points after the break for Sarah Lawrence with McDine posting 15 second half points for the Knights, going 6-for-11 overall and 3-for-6 from behind the arc.
McDine closed the night shooting 9-for-17 overall and 5-for-10 from three-point range, adding a rebound, two assists and a pair of steals. Nocera and Wolff combined to go 12-for-25 from the floor with four three-pointers, with Nocera handing out three assists. Bacci finished up with 11 points and a pair of assists for the Knights, while
Andrew Holmes (Niskayuna, N.Y.) led the team with five rebounds and four assists.
Sarah Lawrence was led by 20 points each from Anyia and Segal, with B.J. sanders netting 16 points. Anyia led the team with six rebounds and five assists.
Mount Saint Mary closed the night shooting 54.1-percent, hitting nine three points. Sarah Lawrence shot 57.7-percent, but committed 19 turnovers leading to 29 Mount Saint Mary points.
Thursday's win moves Mount Saint Mary to 10-12 overall on the season and to 10-7 in Skyline Conference play. The Knights remain on the road Saturday when they travel to Maritime. Tip-off with the Privateers is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
