Newburgh, N.Y. – After claiming its second straight Skyline Conference Championship and the third league crown in program history, the Mount Saint Mary College Men's Soccer Team will travel to #9/10 University of Rochester for a 5:00 p.m. kick-off with the Yellow Jackets on Saturday. At A Glance: The Knights earned the Skyline Conference's berth into the NCAA Tournament with a 2-0 win over the United States Merchant Marine Academy on November 3. The win gave the Mount its second straight conference championship and the third for the program since 2013.
A pair of freshmen lead a balanced scoring attack for the Knights, with
Matthew Wyant (Beacon, N.Y.) and
Connor Doyle (Ne Windsor, N.Y.) pacing the offense. Wyant, a three-time Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week, enters the weekend leading the team in goals (9), assists (8) and points (26), with Doyle, winner of one Rookie of the Week honor, stands second on the team with eight goals and 18 points.
Senior
Connor Lynch (Clifton Park, N.Y.) has had a breakout offensive season for the Knights, scoring seven times for 14 points. Classmates
Matthew Fuge (Avon, Conn.) and
Bereket Watts (Addis Abuba, Ethipoia) check in with three goals apiece, while fellow senior
Fred Stark (Hollis, N.Y.) has assisted on five goals and potted tow of his own.
Sophomore
Tyler Rapp (East Berne, N.Y.) has seen the bulk of playing time in goal over the second half of the season, playing 1,228:38 of a possible 1,846:57 in 2018. He has stopped 44 opponent shots and holds a 9-4-1 record to go along with a 1.25 goals against average and .721 save percentage.
Among The Skyline Leaders: Wyant is scattered among the Skyline Conference leaders and sits in a tie for second in points and tied atop the league leader board in assists. Wyant (7
th) and Doyle (10
th) are within the top-10 in the conference in goals with Rapp standing 12
th it the league in total saves and fifth in the conference in shutouts.
One For The Record Books: Saturday's win in the Skyline Final gives the Mount a program single season record 14 wins, besting the previous best of 13 set during the 1990 campaign.
Preseason Notes: After claiming the 2017 Skyline crown, the Knights were picked as the preseason favorite to repeat. The Mount posted an 8-1-1 mark in conference play in 2018, claiming the top seed in the conference championship by three points over Maritime.
All-Skyline Honors: The Knights featured four All-Conference selections in 2018, placing two players on the First Team and a pair on the Second Team. Freshmen
Matthew Wyant and
Connor Doyle were made First Team selections, with
Connor Lynch and
Joseph Mesoraca landing on the Second Team.
Balanced Attack: Heading into Saturday's tilt, the Mount features 14 players with at least one goal and eight different players with a game winning tally.

Third Time The Charm?: Mount Saint Mary is making its third appearance in the NCAA Tournament, but is searching for its first win. The Knights lost a 1-0 heartbreaker to #7 York (Pa.) in 2013 and fell on the road at #15 Cortland a season ago by a 3-0 count.
Stingy Defense: Entering Saturday's tilt, the Knights have allowed just a single goal in its last four outings and is outscoring their opponents 10-1 over that stretch.
Rapp Coming On Strong: Sophomore goalkeeper
Tyler Rapp is entering the NCAA Tournament on a roll. He has started four of the team's last five games and holds a 0.41 goals against average and a .905 save percentage while making 19 saves and posting a pair of shutouts.
Last Time Out: The Mount won the Skyline Conference Championship via a 2-0 home win over the United States Merchant Marine Academy.
Matthew Wyant scored both goals, including the game winner with :07 left before halftime. The Knights were outshot in the game 8-4 and USMMA held a commanding 7-2 edge in corner kicks, but
Tyler Rapp made a trio of saves to keep the Mariners off the board.
A Look At Rochester: The Yellow Jackets enter the NCAA Tournament, their 12
th appearance in the National Tournament in the last 14 season, with a 12-2-2 overall record and coming off a scoreless draw with Emory in the regular season finale.
Rochester is 5-1-2 in its last eight games with the lone blemish over that stretch coming in a 3-2 overtime loss against UAA rival Case Western Reserve on October 26.
Bryce Ikeda and Josh Colley lead the scoring attack with five goals apiece with Ikeda adding team highs in assists with six and points with 16. Aidan Miller and Mitch Volis each check in with four markers apiece with Ikeda leading nine different players with a game winning goal with three.
In goal, Patrick Conway has started each of the team's 16 games to date and played 1,393:53 of a possible 1,518:13 on the season. He holds a 0.71 goals against average and an .807 save percentage while making 46 saves and posting seven shutouts.
Entering play on Saturday, Rochester has outscored its opponents 30-11 and holds the edges over its 2018 foes in assists 22-18 and points 82-30.
What's At Stake: The Knights are searching for their first NCAA Tournament goal and first NCAA Tournament victory, while Rochester advanced to the Elite 8 in 2017 before falling to Messiah in the National Quarterfinal.
Around The Bracket: In addition to the Knights and Yellow Jackets, St. Lawrence and Brockport will play in Rochester at 7:30 p.m. Saturday night. The two winners will square off on Sunday at 7:00 p.m.
