Knights Welcome Hunter Before Opening Conference Play

Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Men's Basketball team plays the final two games of a three-game homestand on Monday night against Hunter College at 7 p.m., followed by the Knights opening Skyline Conference play against Yeshiva on Thursday at 8 p.m.

Season Opener: The Knights won their opener in a hard-fought contest against Manhattanville on Tuesday, 73-69.

Kendall Francis (Great Neck, N.Y.) led the Mount with 17 points as three other players scored double digit points to pace the Knights offensive attack. Connor Bacci (Bayside, N.Y.), Paul Sienke (Washington, D.C.) and Jaiden Melendez (Lebanon, P.A.) all had 13 points in the victory.

The Knights held a Manhattanville team, who was averaging 98 points a game, to 68 points and forced 23 turnovers. The Mount finished the game shooting an even 50-percent overall, including 4-for-8 from three-point range. The Knights outscored the visitors from the free-throw line 19-5 and 21-11 in points off of turnovers.

Tristan Millett (Allentown, N.J.) led the Mount with six rebounds in the game with Bacci finishing off a strong night with two assists and three steals.

Scouting Hunter: The Hawks are 2-2 on the young season following a 74-62 loss to SUNY Cobleskill on Tuesday.

George Keener is the leading scorer with 20.5 points per game and Gio Gabbidon is the other double-digit scorer with 14.8 points per night.
James Blair is the leader in rebounds with 7.8, Keener is second with 7.5 and Abraham Rosow is third with 6.8 per contest.

Danny Fusco is the leading assist man with 4.0 assists per game and is the leader in steals with 10. Blair leads the team in blocks with four.

Hunter is shooting 41 percent from the field as a team and 28 percent from the three-point line. They average 71.3 points per night and give up 75.5 points per game.

A Look at Yeshiva: The Maccabees are winless at 0-4 on the season following an 85-64 loss to #8 Williams College on Sunday. They will play St. Joseph's-Brooklyn on Tuesday.

Yeshiva has four players averaging double figures in points. Ryan Turell has the team lead with 18.5, Simcha Halpert is second with 18.0, Gabriel Leifer is next with 14.5 and Daniel Tzion is the fourth with 10.8.

Leifer is averaging a double-double with 10.3 rebounds to go with his 18.0 points. Leifer is the leader in assists with 16, Daniel Katz has 13 and Eitan Halpert has 10. Leifer also leads in steals with 10 and blocks with seven.

Yeshiva is averaging 72.3 points per game on 46 percent shooting while allowing opponents to score 79.3 points per game on 48 percent shooting.

What's Next: The Knights travel to St. Joseph's-Brooklyn on Saturday to play their first road contest this season. Tip-off with the Bears is scheduled for 4 p.m. with video and live stats available for those unable to attend.
