Knights Outlast Hunter, 61-56

Francis nets game-high 22 points

Newburgh N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Men's Basketball team won its second straight game of the season on Monday night, defeating Hunter College 61-56. Kendall Francis (Great Neck, N.Y.) led the Knights with 22 points, one short of a career high.

The Knights ran out to a quick 6-0 lead after Francis knocked down three free throws and a three-pointer within the first two minutes. After 15 minutes of play, the Knights jumped out to an 11-point lead following a Connor Bacci (Bayside, N.Y.) layup off an offensive rebound.

The Mount had their largest lead of the game with 33 seconds left to go in the half at 13 when Hunter scored five points in the last 30 seconds to cut the halftime deficit to eight.

The Hawks made a strong push in the second half, taking their first lead of the game at the 12:29 mark. Ethan Fox (Wallingford, C.T.) buried a mid-range jumper to tie the game again at 38-38 as the rest of the half was back and forth until Paul Sienke (Washington, D.C.) and Tristan Millett (Allentown, N.J) made some big shots and free throws down the stretch to secure the Mount's second win of the season.

Bacci finished the night with a double-double, scoring 13 points to go with 10 rebounds in the victory. Sienke finished with 15 points, seven rebounds and two assists while Francis added seven rebounds, three assists and two steals. Fox finished with two points, seven rebounds and three blocks.

George Keener led the Hawks with 14 points, nine rebounds and five steals. Danny Fusco added 12 points, two assists and two steals while Abraham Rosow secured a game-high 12 rebounds.

Mount Saint Mary finished the night shooting 38-percent from the field and 31.8-percent from the three-point line. The Knights scored 13 points off of 14 Hunter turnovers and outrebounded the Hawks 43-33.

At 2-0 on the season, Mount Saint Mary completes its three game homestand in their Skyline Conference opener against Yeshiva on Thursday at 8 p.m.
