Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Basketball team continues its four game homestand in a non-conference matchup with Vassar on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
At a Glance: The Knights suffered their first loss of the season on Saturday in a non-conference matchup against Misericordia, 65-41.
Katie Smith (Goshen, N.Y.) is the leading scorer with 12.0 points per game through two contests,
Kayla Cleare (West Hempstead, N.Y.) is second with 7.5 points per outing and
Elizabeth Limonta (Stewart Manor, N.Y.) and
Lauren Desrats (Warwick, N.Y.) are tied for third with 7.0 points per night.
Limonta leads the team in rebounding with 11.0 per game and Cleare is second with 8.5 per game. Smith is the assist leader with five and Desrats and
Jordyn Hellpap (Hackensack, N.J.) are tied with four apiece.
Limonta and
Toriana Tabasco (Hillsdale, N.J.) lead with four steals each and
Maite Gritsko (Milford, C.T.) has three. Limonta leads in blocks with four.
Last Time Out: The Mount lost its home opener, 65-41, to Misericordia in which it shot 28.6-percent from the floor and from three-point range. The Panthers broke the game open after outscoring the Knights 30-11 in the second quarter and finished the game knocking in seven triples and outscoring the Mount 25-9 in points off turnovers.
Cleare had eight points and eight rebounds and Smith added eight points and three assists. Limonta had a game-high 14 rebounds for the Knights, chipping in four points, two blocks and three steals.
Scouting Vassar: The Brewers have opened the season with a 2-1 record following two victories this weekend at the Pablo Coto Tip-Off Tournament in Arlington, Va. They defeated Ursinus 74-64 on Friday and Marymount 56-52 on Saturday.
Sophie Nick is averaging a double-double to start the young season with 18.7 points and 10.7 rebounds. Isa Peczuh is second on the scoring list with 18.0 points per night with Jackie Cenan averaging 13.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.3 assists.
Ryan DeOrio is averaging 10.7 points per game to go with 6.7 rebounds and Maeve Sussman is a do-it-all guard for Vassar, averaging 6 points, 5.7 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game.
What's Next: The Knights finish their homestand following the Thanksgiving break against the College of Staten Island on Tuesday, November 27 at 7 p.m. and open Skyline Conference play against Yeshiva on Thursday, November 29 at 6 p.m.
