Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Basketball team hosts Misericordia in its home opener as part of a four game home stand on Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Kaplan Center.
Season Opener: The Knights opened their season with a convincing 59-39 victory over the University of Saint Joseph on Saturday.
Sophomore
Katie Smith (Goshen, N.Y.), reigning Skyline Conference Player of the Week, led the team with 16 points, one short of her career high, freshman
Lauren Desrats (Warwick, N.Y.) scored 11 points in her season debut and senior
Elizabeth Limonta (Stewart Manor, N.Y.) added 10 points and eight rebounds for the Mount.
Senior
Kayla Cleare (West Hempstead, N.Y.) had the team-high in rebounds with nine, freshman
Annie Keenan (Nesconset, N.Y.) chipped in six points and eight boards in her debut, and newcomer
Toriana Tabasco (Hillsdale, N.J.) had a team-high two steals.
The Knights dominated the boards, outrebounding the Blue Jays, 53-38, and blocked eight shots as a team. The Mount turned 21 Saint Joseph turnovers into 18 points.
Scouting Misericordia: The Cougars have opened their season at 2-0 with a 74-54 victory over Immaculata on Saturday and a 67-49 win over Keystone on Wednesday.
Misericordia has three players averaging over 10 points a game. Rachel Carmody is the leading scorer with 19.5 ppg, Tessa Zamolyi is second with 15.5 and Japriya Carroll is third with 13.5.
Erica Haefele is the leader in assists with 10 and Leanne Forsyth is next with eight. Carmody is the leading rebounder with 7.5, Paige Wampole and Forsyth are tied for second with 5.5 and Zamolyi is next with 5.0. Wampole has four blocks in the two games.
As a team, the Cougars are shooting 41 percent from the field and 73 percent from the free throw line. Carmody is shooting 62 percent from the field, Zamolyi is 57 percent from the field, and Carroll is shooting 53 percent.
What's Next: The Knights continue their homestand against Vassar on Tuesday, November 20. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
