Men’s Soccer Has Unbeaten Streak Stopped At Maritime

Trio of Knights record three shots

Throggs Neck, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Men's Soccer team saw its five match unbeaten streak stopped and was handed its first loss since September 18 on Wednesday following a 3-0 road defeat at Maritime.
 
Despite being outshot 6-3 in the opening 45 minutes, the Privateers struck with the eventual game winning goal in the 32nd minute when Anthony Palazzolo found the back of the net for the fourth time in 2018. He finished off a pass from Lawrence Castello at the 31:23 mark of the tilt to give Maritime a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.


Mount Saint Mary recorded the first four shots of the game on its way to a 6-3 halftime edge in attempts, but could not find the back of the net before the intermission. Maritime finished the first half with all three corner kicks taken prior to halftime.
 
The one goal advantage for the Privateers stood until an own goal expanded the lead to 2-0 at the 60:30 mark of the contest. Maritime put the game away with its third goal, Parker Gallt's fifth of the season, in the 82nd minute.
 
Mount Saint Mary finished the second half with a 7-4 edge in shots on its way to a 13-7 advantage for the game. Maritime, however, finished with a 6-2 edge in shots on target and finished the with 3-0 advantage in corner kicks.
 
Seven different Knights finished the game with at least one shot, with Joseph Mesoraca (Oceanside, N.Y.), Matthew Fuge (Avon, Conn.) and Connor Doyle (New Windsor, N.Y.) all rounding out the game with three shots for the Knights.
 
Tyler Rapp (East Berne, N.Y.) started for the eighth straight game in goal for the Knights and finished with a pair of saves. Michael Rodriguez earned the shutout for the Privateers with a pair of stops of his own.
 
Wednesday's loss drops Mount Saint Mary to 8-5-1 overall on the season and to 4-1-1 in Skyline Conference play. Next up for the Knights is a home conference matchup with Farmingdale State on Saturday. Kick-off is set for 12:00 p.m.
