Knights Travel To Sarah Lawrence, Host St. Joseph’s-L.I.

MSMC has won three straight

Newburgh, N.Y. – Winners of three straight matches, the Mount Saint Mary College Women's Tennis team returns to Skyline Conference action with a pair of matches this week. The Mount travels to Sarah Lawrence for a 6:00 p.m. contest with the Gryphons on Wednesday and will then play host to St. Joseph's-L.I. at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.
 
At A Glance: The Knights have evened their record at 3-3 with their current three match winning streak, with all three wins coming by 9-0 scores.
 
Sophomore Michelle Carnovale (Massapequa, N.Y.) and senior Dorothy Tighe (Walden, N.Y.) lead the Knights with four singles wins a piece and the duo is joined by Miyanna Vernon (Liberty, N.Y.) and senior Charlotte Pascual (Freeport, N.Y.) as winners of each of their last three singles matches.
 
In doubles play, Carnovale and Victoria Clay (Saint James, N.Y.) have won each of their last three decisions and stand at 3-3 at the first position, while Tighe and Pascual are on a three match run at second doubles to improve to 3-3 on the season.
 
Last Time Out: Mount Saint Mary won its third straight match on Sunday with a 9-0 road win at Berkeley. Clay and Tighe each won by 6-0, 6-0 scores in the match with Tighe and Pascual blanking their opponents at second doubles.
 
Weekly Honors: For the first time in 2017 and the fourth time in her career, Carnovale earned a weekly honor from the Skyline Conference on Monday. After going 3-0 at first singles and teaming with Clay for a 3-0 mark at the top doubles position, she was named the Skyline Conference Player of the Week.
 
Gauging The Gryphons: Sarah Lawrence enters Wednesday's tilt at 1-5 overall and 0-1 against league rivals. The Gryphons dropped their first five matches of the season before scoring their first win against York on Saturday.
 
The Gryphons dropped just five games to the Cardinals in the win, with Rebecca Manillo and Julia Kornberg blanking their opponents at fifth and third singles, respectively.
 
Manillo and Kornberg pace the Gryphons with a pair of singles victories apiece, while Sarah Lawrence is in search of its first doubles win of the season.
 
Scouting St. Joseph's-L.I. The Golden Eagles enter a Wednesday match against Farmingdale State at 3-2 overall and 0-1 in league play. The Golden Eagles have won two of their last three outings, but dropped a 9-0 decision to Oneonta on Saturday.
 
Four Golden Eagles have won three singles match thus far, including Victoria Panicola who is 3-1 at the second position. Panicola and Amanda Post hold a 2-3 record at first doubles and are one of three pairs with two victories together heading into the match with the Rams.
 
MSMC Men In Action: After their fall opener at Nichols was postponed, the Mount Men will travel to Bard on Thursday for a 5:00 p.m. match with the Raptors. In addition, Matt Anastasi (Salisbury Hills, N.Y.) and Chris McGorty (Bellmore, N.Y.) will be in action at the ITA Northeast Regional tournament at Skidmore on Saturday and Sunday.
 
What's Next: The Knights will continue Skyline Conference play next week when they welcome Farmingdale State and Hartwick to Newburgh before traveling to Purchase on the weekend.
