Jakup Myrtja (Newburgh, N.Y.) posted his first career shutout as the Mount Saint Mary College Men's Soccer team returned to the win column with a 2-0 victory over St. Joseph's-Brooklyn on Wednesday night.
After a scoreless first half, that featured just five shots from the Mount, the Knights broke through just under five minutes into the second frame.
Connor Lynch (Clifton Park, N.Y.) started a free kick that
Matt Fuge (Avon, Conn.) headed along to Dolan who finished the game winning goal at the 49:24 mark of the contest.
Dolan doubled the Mount's lead nearly 13 minutes later when he scored his team leading eighth goal of the season.
Joseph Mesoraca (Oceanside, N.Y.) payed a ball to Dolan who drove a low shot to the far post for an insurance tally at 56:09.
Dolan finished off both of his shots in the game and moved his team lead in scoring to eight goals, including three game winners, and 17 points. Lynch picked up his second helper of the season on the first goal of the night with Mesoraca picking up his first career assist.
Myrtja made his sixth start of the season in goal and picked up his first career clean sheet with a pair of second half saves. He lowered his season goals against average to 2.07 and raised his save percentage to .739 with 34 stops on the year.
Mount Saint Mary finished the game with seven different players with a shot, led by three each from
Jonathan Schefer (Greenlawn, N.Y.) and
Steven Beleno (Newburgh, N.Y.). The Knights posted a 14-4 edge in overall shots in the game, but a slim 3-2 advantage in shots on goal.
