Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Tennis team picked up its second straight win on Saturday afternoon with a 9-0 non-conference triumph over visiting New Rochelle. The Knights blanked their second straight opponent and dropped just seven singles games in the contest.
Three singles players won by impressive 6-0, 6-0 scores, including
Victoria Clay (Saint James, N.Y.) at the third position.
Dorothy Tighe (Walden, N.Y.) and
Julia Lorenzo (Emerald Isle, N.C.) each won by 6-0, 6-0 scores at the fourth and sixth positions.
Sophomore
Michelle Carnovale (Massapequa, N.Y.) moved to 3-2 at the top singles flight with a 6-2, 6-0 win with
Charlotte Pascual (Freeport, N.Y.) posting a 6-1, 6-3 second singles win and
Miyanna Vernon (Liberty, N.Y.) securing a 6-0, 6-1 fifth position victory.
In doubles play, the Mount dropped just a single game to the Blue Angels, with the second and third pairs winning 8-0. Tighe and Pascual as well as Vernon and
Emily Quinn (Montgomery, N.Y.) blanked their opponents, while Carnovale and Clay scored an 8-1 win at the top flight.
At 2-3 overall on the season, Mount Saint Mary closes out a busy week on Sunday with a road match at Berkeley. The contest at the National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y. is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
