Mahwah, N.J. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Volleyball team began play at the Roadrunner Invitational hosted by Ramapo on Friday evening with a pair of 3-0 losses to Scranton and SUNY Potsdam. The Knights dropped 20-25, 16-25, 8-25 and 16-25, 17-25, 23-25 decisions on Friday, with
Courtney Blum (Belle Harbor, N.Y.) recording a career-high 26 assists against Potsdam.
Scranton 3 – Mount Saint Mary 0
The Royals, who are receiving votes in the latest AVCA National Poll, finished the match hitting just shy of .300 as a team and put away 39 kills with 30 coming in the final two frames. Scranton finished the match with a 39-24 advantage in kills, and 3-1 edge in total blocks and a 47-35 advantage in digs. Scranton also dominated the service game with a 13-1 advantage in aces.
Sophomore
Madelyn Barberan (Fishkill, N.Y.) paced the offensive attack against Scranton with six kills with
Jackie Survilla (West Islip, N.Y.) and
Nicole Spinelli (Wantagh, N.Y.) each putting away five winners for the Knights.
Senior
Julimar Figueroa (Dorado, Puerto Rico) lifted a team-high 15 digs for the Mount, while
Morgan Burke (Ringwood, N.J.) accounted for the team's lone block. Blum started the day with 20 assists for the Mount to go along with a kill and three digs.
Scranton was led by nine players with at least one kill, including Kristen Sweeney who led the team with nine while hitting .350. Kindler Norman paced all players with 33 assists in the match to go along with six digs and a pair of blocks. Kate Calabro led three players in double-figures in digs with a team-high 12.
Potsdam 3 – Mount Saint Mary 0
The Knights finished with a 30-25 edge in kills against the Bears in the second match of the day, but made 16 more attack errors and were out blocked by Potsdam 9-2. The Mount finished the match with a 6-4 edge in service aces and a slim 59-57 edge in digs.
Six different players finished the tilt with at least two kills for Mount Saint Mary, led by seven from Survilla. She added a pair of blocks and three digs for the Knights.
Ally Klesin (Glendale, N.Y.), Barberan and Spinelli each put away five winners, with Klesin adding two aces and five digs.
Lauren LeGere (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) finished up with nine digs and a pair of aces for the Mount, with Figureoa topping her previous career-high in digs by nine with a career best 28 against the Bears.
Blum rounded out a strong day with a career-high 26 assists in the second match of the day, adding a block and four digs for the Knights.
Potsdam featured Rachel Topf who led all players with 11 kills and a .345 attack percentage and Kelsey Tompkins who posted seven total blocks to go along with six kills. Brianne Rodda handed out 23 assists and lifted 14 digs, while Whitney Coyle led the team with 15 digs.
Friday's results drop Mount Saint Mary to 2-9 overall on the season. The Knights round out play at the two-day tournament Saturday against FDU-Florham and Ramapo starting at noon.
