Knights Travel To New York University Saturday

MSMC topped Bard in last outing

Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Soccer team returns to action Saturday evening when it travels to Gaelic Park in Riverdale, N.Y. for a non-conference clash with New York University. Kick-off with the Violets is set for 6:00 p.m. with Live Stats and Video available for those who cannot attend the game.
 
MSMC At A Glance: The Knights enter Saturday's tilt at 3-1-1 overall after splitting a pair of games at the Vassar Invitational. The Knights were downed by the host Brewers 3-0 before rebounding for a 3-1 win over Bard to close the event.
 
The Knights have had eight different players score a goal through the first five games of the season, with Destiny Ribadeneyra (Maybrook, N.Y.) leading the way with five tallies, including a pair of game winning goals. Fellow senior Bridget McKeever (Wallkill, N.Y.) has scored four times and is tied for the team lead with Ribadeneyra in assists with three.
 
The senior duo account for two of 10 players with at least one point on the season with Ribadeneyra pacing the team with 13 and McKeever following closely with 11. Both players rank in the top-10 on the conference leaderboard in both goals and points.
 
Senior Mary Riley (Newburgh, N.Y.) has started all five games in goal and played all but 85:37 on the season between the pipes for the Knights. She has recorded a single shutout and holds an .818 save percentage and a 1.38 goals against average. Riley ranks fifth in the conference in both goals against average and save percentage.
 
As a team, Mount Saint Mary ranks third in the Skyline Conference in both scoring average (3.2) and scoring margin (2.0).
 
Last Time Out: After falling to Vassar to open the Invitational, the Knights closed the event with a 3-1 win over local foe Bard. McKeever got the Mount on the board in the 49th minute and later added an insurance goal in the 53rd minute to finish off the scoring in the game. Ribadeneyra picked up her second game winning goal of the year 44 seconds after Bard knotted the score at 1-1.
 
Riley finished with eight saves against the Raptors as shots on goal in the contest were even at 9-9. The Knights held a slim 13-12 edge in overall shots in the contest, while Bard finished with a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks.
 
A Look At NYU: The Violets enter Saturday's tilt at 2-2 overall and ranked seventh in the United Soccer Coaches latest East Regional Rankings. NYU dropped both of its games in the Stevens Engineering Cup, falling to Swarthmore 2-1 and the host Ducks 1-0.
 
Alex Benedict leads NYU in scoring with a pair of goals and five points with each of her goals deciding the Violets' two wins. Michaela Brickley has started three of the four games in goal for NYU and holds a 0.67 goals against average and an .867 save percentage to go along with a pair of shutouts.
 
What's Next: Following Saturday's tilt, Mount Saint Mary opens Skyline Conference play on September 19 when plays host to Yeshiva. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
