Knights Suffer Final Round Loss To Maritime

Edgar, Introcaso double in loss

Patchogue, N.Y. – Advancing to the Final Round of the 2017 Skyline Conference Championship as the fifth seed, the Mount Saint Mary College Baseball team saw its season come to an end with a 14-2 loss to Maritime on Monday. Kevin Edgar (Southampton, N.Y.) and Christopher Introcaso (Newburgh, N.Y.) each finished with a pair of hits.

Maritime got off to a fast start on Monday, scoring twice in the first, four times in the second and five times in the fourth frame to open an 11-2 lead. Phil Russo highlighted the big second with a two run double, while Stephen Semler, Russo and Aaron Schiavoni laced run scoring doubles in the fourth.

Mount Saint Mary did all of its scoring in the fourth inning with two hits and a Maritime error. Santana led off the inning with a single and later scored on an Introcaso base hit that turned into three bases on a miscue. He later scored on a Tom Huvane (Eastchester, N.Y.) groundout.

Maritime added a run in the fifth and two more in the eighth to finish off the championship. Schiavoni added another run scoring double in the eighth to pad the Privateers' lead.

Maritime outhit the Mount 17-6 and had seven players with at least two safeties. Russo finished 3-for-5 with a run, two doubles and three RBI, while Schiavoni went 3-for-5 with two doubles and a pair of RBI. Matt Costleigh and Chris Deddo each scored three times for the Privateers.

Edgar and Introcaso accounted for four of the team's six hits with each player ripping a double. Santana and Introcaso scored the runs and Huvane managed the only RBI for the team in the game.

Blake Keenan (Fishkill, N.Y.), who saved yesterday's win over St. Joseph's-L.I., suffered the loss after allowing four earned runs on five hits in 1.2 innings of work. Jake Stewart (Wallkill, N.Y.) and Christian Spano (Mahopac, N.Y.) both worked scoreless innings out of the bullpen. Anthony D'Ancona worked a complete game with four strikeouts as he moved to 5-1 on the season.

Monday's loss finishes the Mount's season at 15-28.
