Wappingers Falls, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Baseball team returned to action on Wednesday and suffered a 17-2 non-conference home loss to Manhattanville. Freshmen
Francisco Mojica III (New Windsor, N.Y.) and
Braden Perry (Brockport, N.Y.) each recorded two hits for the Knights.
After being held off the board in the first, the visiting Valiants scored in their next seven at-bats to pull away for the win. Manhattanville scored at least two runs in six at-bats, with Robbie Lynch capping a four-run seventh inning with a three-run home run down the left field line.
Manhattanville showed 12 players with a hit as the team posted 20 safeties against five Mount Saint Mary pitchers. Seven players posted multiple hits, led by a 3-for-4 effort from Peter Iannarilli who also scored three times. Lynch scored twice and drove in three with Stephen Merrill finishing up 2-for-5 with a run and an RBI.
Mojica went a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate for the Knights with a pair of RBI, with Perry rounding out the day 2-for-2 off the bench. Vincenco Pepe (Middletown, N.Y.) and
Kevin Edgar (Southampton, N.Y.) each finished with a hit and a run for the Knights.
Freshman
Jake Stewart (Wallkill, N.Y.) suffered the loss on Wednesday after allowing five runs on eight hits in 3.0 innings.
Sal Rizzo (Smithtown, N.Y.) struck out two in 1.1 innings and
Christopher Introcaso (Newburgh, N.Y.) worked a scoreless inning with a strikeout.
Wednesday's loss drops Mount Saint Mary to 4-16 overall. Next up for the Knights is a Skyline Conference set on Saturday with Old Westbury. First pitch with the Panthers is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
