Colgan, McLaren double for the Mount Saint Mary

Poughkeepsie, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Baseball team returned to action at local rival Vassar on Wednesday, dropping a 10-3 decision to the Brewers. Peter Knights (White Plains, N.Y.) finished the game with two hits for the Mount.

Vassar jumped on top early on Wednesday and went on to score in all but two at-bats in the game. The  Brewers plated three runs in the first, keyed by two-run triple from Denis Shanagher, and added single runs in the second, third, fourth and fifth innings.

After being held off the board in the sixth and seventh frames, the Brewers scored three more times in the eighth to close out the scoring in the game. Shanagher and Evan Trausch recorded run scoring safeties in the inning for Vassar.

Mount Saint Mary did all of its scoring in the fifth inning, when it plated three runs on four hits. Vincenzo Pepe (Middletown, N.Y.), Kevin Edgar (Southampton, N.Y.) and Knights all singled with one out ahead of a three-run double from Chris McLaren (Cornwall-on-Hudson, N.Y.).

McLaren and Kevin Colgan (Islip, N.Y.) each finished with a double for the Mount, with Knights rounding out the day 2-for-2 with a run scored. Edgar finished the day with a hit and a run scored for the Knights with McLaren driving in all three Mount Saint Mary runs.

Vassar featured six players with multiple hits in the game, led by three knocks each from Matt Hernandez and Jake Doyle. Shanagher finished with two hits, a pair of runs and three runs batted in for the Brewers.
