Oneonta, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Baseball team was back on the field Thursday afternoon and dropped a 13-3 road non-conference decision at Oneonta. Freshman
John Santana (Warwick, N.Y.) finished the contest with three hits for the Knights.
After falling behind 3-0 after two innings, the Mount got back to within a run in the top half of the third frame. The Knights took advantage of four errors in the inning with
Chris McLaren (Cornwall-on-Hudson, N.Y.) and
Nick Rizzo (Smithtown, N.Y.) scoring unearned runs.
The Mount kept Oneonta off the board in the third and fourth frames, but saw the Red Dragons plate five runs in the fifth, a single run in the seventh and four runs in the eighth to pull away from the Mount. James Ceparano delivered a three-run triple in the big fifth with Mickey Mullins driving in two runs with a single in the eighth.
Mount Saint Mary scored its third run of the game in the top of the seventh when Santana singled through the right side and later scored on a wild pitch.
Santana rounded out the game 3-for-5 with a double, recording three of the team's five hits in the contest.
Tom Huvane (Eastchester, N.Y.) doubled for the Knights and McLaren singled for Mount Saint Mary. McLaren, Santana and Rizzo scored the runs for the Mount in the game.
Brandon Torres led the Oneonta offensive attack after going 3-for-5 with a run and an RBI. Ceparano hit one of the team's three triples in the game and finished 2-for-4 with two runs and five RBI.
Blake Keenan (Fishkill, N.Y.) suffered the loss for Mount Saint Mary, working 5.0 innings and allowing eight runs on nine hits. He walked three and struck out three. Steven Gerringer picked up the win for the Red Dragons with 6.0 innings and six strikeouts.
Thursday's loss drops Mount Saint Mary to 4-20 overall on the season. The Knights return to Skyline Conference action on Monday when they play host to the College of Mount Saint Vincent. First pitch at Dutchess Stadium is scheduled for 9:30 a.m.
