Katie Gattoni (Old Tappan, N.J.) posted nine points and freshman
Mikaela Rios (Mastic, N.Y.) scored four times as the Mount Saint Mary College Women's Lacrosse team picked up its second straight win with a 15-10 road triumph at Sage in its first conference tilt of the season.
The Knights never trailed in the game and used a five goal run in the late stages of the first half to open an 8-2 lead. Gattoni scored three times over that stretch and four times in the first half overall to help the Knights to an 8-4 halftime advantage.
Sage rattled off the first two goals of the second half to climb to within 8-6, but the Mount ripped off the next five goals and six of the next seven tallies to open a 15-8 lead on an
Amanda Clemens (Baldwin, N.Y.) tally with 4:51 left to play. Rios scored twice early in the second half to spark the team's second straight victory.
Gattoni scored six times for Mount Saint Mary and picked up three assists in the game to finish with a season-high nine points. She rounded out the win for the Knights with two groundballs, two caused turnovers and seven draw controls.
Rios reached career-highs in goals with four and points with five after recording her first assist of the season.
Morgan Cordes (Sound Beach, N.Y.) and
Kayla Gilligan (Amityville, N.Y.) also had strong offensive nights with two goals apiece.
Cordes,
Allison Dionne (Burlington, Conn.) and
Maggie Pedersen (Glasco, N.Y.) all finished the evening with a pair of groundballs with Pedersen and Cordes leading the way with three caused turnovers apiece. Cordes and
Chelsea Henke (Pawling, N.Y.) each won three draw controls for the Mount.
Sage was led by four goals and five points from Monica Koralus with Nicole Maher adding two goals and an assist. Savannah Mason picked up four groundballs and Koralus won a team-high four draw controls.
Amanda Picillo (Valley Stream, N.Y.) earned the win in goal after making 10 saves and leading the team with four groundballs.
Carolyn Smith (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) came on to play the final 5:36 and made a single stop for the Knights.
Mount Saint Mary finished the night with a 28-23 advantage in shots and a 25-21 edge in shots on goal. Groundballs in the game were even at 15-15, with the Knights holding a 15-12 advantage in draw controls.
Tuesday's win pushes Mount Saint Mary to 2-3 overall on the season and to 1-0 in Skyline Conference play. The Mount returns home on Saturday for a conference tilt with the College of Mount Saint Vincent. Opening Draw with the Dolphins is scheduled for noon.
