Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Lacrosse team picked up its third straight victory on Saturday afternoon with a convincing 16-4 Skyline Conference victory over the College of Mount Saint Vincent. Nine different Knights scored a goal in the game, with
Katie Gattoni (Old Tappan, N.J.) leading the charge with four tallies.
Mount Saint Mary opened the game up early on Saturday, building a 9-0 lead over the first 13:06 of the contest. Gattoni scored 52 seconds into the game to open the scoring and finished the half with all four of her goals in the game.
Mount Saint Vincent got on the board at the 14:19 mark of the first half on a goal from Paulina Mandujano, but the Knights closed the opening stanza with goals from
Julia Fitzpatrick (Shelton, Conn.) and
Allison Dionne (Burlington, Conn.) to carry an 11-1 lead into the break.
The Knights finished the initial 30 minutes on Saturday with an 18-6 advantage in shots, allowing just four shots on goal to the Dolphins. Groundballs in the first half were even at 8-8, while the Mount finished with a 9-4 edge in draw controls.
After the two teams alternated goals coming out of the intermission, Mount Saint Mary ripped off three straight goals to open a 15-2 lead with 19:52 left to play.
Morgan Cordes (Sound Beach, N.Y.) started the run with her third goal of the season and
Christina Ryan (Franklin Square, N.Y.) scored back-to-back goals just over three minutes apart to close the spurt.
Olivia Green (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) closed out the scoring for the Knights with her second marker of the season with 10:25 left in the game.
Gattoni finished the game with four goals and two assists and moved her team scoring lead to 22 goals, 10 assists and 32 points. She picked up her first game winning goal of the season on Saturday and added a pair of draw controls.
Rios scored multiple goals for the third straight contest with Ryan posting season-highs in goals with three and points with four.
Maggie Pedersen (Glasco, N.Y.) and Cordes each collected three groundballs, with Cordes causing four turnovers and winning a team-high four draw controls.
Mount Saint Vincent was led by a goal and an assist from Courtney Latorre who added a team best three draw controls. Meaghan Cleary picked up three groundballs for the Dolphins and Lauren Tate caused a pair of turnovers.
Amanda Picillo (Valley Stream, N.Y.) continued her steady sophomore season with three first half saves in the win, while
Carolyn Smith (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) came on the second half to make a pair of stops. Gabriella Marinese stopped six shots for the Dolphins.
Mount Saint Mary closed Saturday's tilt with a 25-13 edge in overall shots and a 22-9 advantage in shots on goal. Mount Saint Vincent took groundballs by a slim 17-16 margin, while draw controls went to the Knights 15-7.
Saturday's win gets Mount Saint Mary to the .500 mark of the first time this season at 3-3 overall and pushes its league mark to a perfect 2-0. Next up for the Knights is a non-conference road game at King's (Pa.) on Monday night. Opening Draw in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. is set for 7:00 p.m.
