Port Charlotte, Fla. – The Mount Saint Mary College Baseball team continued its trip to Florida on Tuesday with a 16-2 loss to #9 the College of Wooster. Newcomer
Christopher Introcaso (Newburgh, Conn.) connected on his second home run of the season for the Knights.
After the Fighting Scots got out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning, the Knights came back to knot the score on a two-run shot off the bat on Introcaso in the third.
John Santana (Warwick, N.Y.) reached with a two-out single in front on Introcaso who accounted for the Mount's only two runs of the game with a big fly to left field.
Wooster answered right back in the home half of the third frame and then opened the game up with six tallies in the fourth inning. The Fighting Scots recorded six hits in the inning with Michael Wielansky delivering two runs in the frame with a base hit and Drew Tornow doubling home a pair of runs.
Wooster went on to score in each of its final three at-bats, plating two runs in the sixth, a single run in the seventh and four runs in the eighth. Nick Strausburg highlighted the big eighth with a two-run double.
The Fighting Scots had 11 different players record a hit, led by Wielansky who finished up 4-for-4 with four runs scored and a pair of RBI. Garrett Crum rounded out the day 2-for-3 with a run scored and three driven in.
Mount Saint Mary had five different players record a hit with
Vincenzo Pepe (Middletown, N.Y.),
Tom Huvane (Eastchester, N.Y.) and
Nicholas Terzulli (Brooklyn, N.Y.) joining Santana with singles. Sanatana and Introcaso scored the runs, with Introcaso driving in his team leading seventh run of the season.
Christopher Ruggiero (Newburgh, N.Y.) suffered the loss and fell to 0-3 on the season. He allowed six runs on six hits, walking four and striking out one.
Stephan Sookdeo (Carmel, N.Y.) struck out one in 2.2 innings of work, while
Michael Tancredi (Floral Park, N.Y.) worked 2.0 innings in his Mount Saint Mary debut.
Nanak Saran picked up the win for Wooster after allowing two runs on three hits in 5.0 innings. Four relievers combined to give up two hits and strikeout five in four scoreless innings of work.
At 2-7 overall on the season, Mount Saint Mary takes on Denison (2:30 p.m.) and #19 Keystone (6:00 p.m.) on Wednesday.
