Women’s Basketball Hosts Farmingdale State, Travels To Western Connecticut

Knights look to extend four game winning streak

Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Basketball team looks to extend a season-long four game winning streak with a home game against Skyline Conference rival Farmingdale State on Thursday and a road non-conference tilt at Western Connecticut on Saturday afternoon.
 
At A Glance: The Mount has not lost since dropping a road contest at Vassar leading into Thanksgiving and stands at 5-3 overall and a perfect 4-0 in Skyline Conference play. The Knights are outscoring their opponents by better than 33 points per game over the four game winning streak, including a 30 point triumph on the road at the College of Mount Saint Vincent on Saturday afternoon.
 
The Mount features a pair of players scoring in double-figures through the first eight games of the season, with Kayla Cleare (West Hempstead, N.Y.) leading the way with 11.3 points per outing and senior Jessica Rini (Seaford, N.Y.) supporting the offensive attack with 10.9 points per game. Cleare is averaging a double-double, hauling in an even 10.0 rebounds per game, while Rini is good for just over seven caroms per outing.
 
Junior Elizabeth Limonta (Stewart Manor, N.Y.) leads the team in field goal percentage, converting at an efficient 64.4-percent overall, while Jordyn Hellpap (Hackensack, N.J.) is tops on the team in three-point field goals with 13 heading into the week. Freshman Katie Smith (Goshen, N.Y.) is handing out a team-high 2.6 assists per game for the Knights.
 
As a unit, the Knights are averaging 63.1 points per game and are outscoring opponents by nearly 17 points thus far. The team is outrebounding its foes by better than 14 per game and is good for almost 17 points per game off of opponent turnovers.
 
Last Time Out: The Knights collected their fourth straight win on Saturday with an impressive 76-46 road win at Mount Saint Vincent. The Mount shot 45.5-percent from the floor for the game and held the Dolphins under 28-percent. Jessica Rini matched her career-high with 15 rebounds, adding a game-high 21 points to lead three players in double-figures. Cleare chipped in 16 points and 11 boards, while Limonta came off the bench to produce 14 points and seven rebounds.
 
Scouting Farmingdale State: The Rams come to town with a 4-6 overall record and a 3-1 mark in league action and are coming off back-to-back wins over St. Joseph's-L.I. and Sarah Lawrence. The Rams have won three of their last five outings, with the losses coming to Old Westbury and Amherst.
 
Farmingdale State has three players scoring in double-figures through 10 contests, led by 14.7 points from Essence Casey. Kaelyn Ward is good for 12.2 points per game, while Alexis Antonacci is chipping in with 12.0 points per outing.
 
Casey also paces the Rams with nearly eight rebounds per night heading into Thursday's tilt, while Antonacci is handing out better than four assists per outing. Farmingdale State is averaging 65.8 points per game and is shooting just over 34.-percent from the floor as a team.
 
Previewing Western Connecticut: The Colonials enter Saturday's tilt at 4-3 overall, but winless is two outings in the Little East Conference. Western Connecticut is averaging over 121 points in its four wins, but is coming off a 95-65 road loss at UMass-Boston on December 9. The Colonials have been held to 67 and 65 points in their two conference losses coming at the hands of Southern Maine and UMass-Boston.
 
Overall, Western Connecticut is averaging 101.7 points per game and show six players averaging at least 7.0 points per game. Jancy Sherwood leads the scoring attack with 23.9 points per game, connecting on nearly six three-point field goals per game, with Kaitlyn LaBonte checking in with 16.7 points per outing, making just shy of four triples per contest. Megan Hasty and Kathiana Monestime lead the team with 3.1 assists per game.
 
What's Next: The Knights will close out the 2017 portion of the schedule at home on December 20 when they welcome the Pioneers from Transylvania to the Kaplan Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
