Knights Edged By Farmingdale State In Skyline Conference Championship Final

Riley makes five saves in loss

Newburgh, N.Y. – Making its eighth straight appearance in the Skyline Conference Championship Final, the Mount Saint Mary College Women's Soccer team dropped a hard fought 1-0 decision to Farmingdale State on Saturday afternoon. Senior Mary Riley (Newburgh, N.Y.) finished the game with five saves for the Knights.
 
Riley made three big saves inside the first 11 minutes of the game to keep the visitors off the board, but the Rams broke through with the eventual game winning goal in the 15th minute on Saturday. Cailyn Demarinis played a ball through to the right wing where Miranda Ozimek collected it and beat Riley to the far post at 14:39 for her seventh goal of the season.
 
Farmingdale State outshot the Mount 4-1 heading into halftime, with the Mount's only attempt coming on a shot from Nicole Cavallo that sailed wide at the 18:55 mark of the contest.
 
The visiting Rams went on to outshoot the Mount 7-3 in the second half to finish the game with an 11-4 advantage in the category, including an 8-2 edge in shots on goal. Senior Destiny Ribadeneyra (Maybrook, N.Y.) led the Knights with three shots in the game, including two on goal. The Rams dominated corner kicks in the match, 6-0.
 
Riley finished up with five stops for the Knights in just over 66 minutes of work with freshman Cassidy Rykowski (Suffern, N.Y.) coming on to make a single save in nearly 23 minutes of action. Daniella Ford earned the shutout with a pair of stops for the Rams.
 
Saturday's loss closes the Mount's season at 15-4-2 overall.
 
Game Notes: The Knights have played in every Skyline Conference Championship Final since 2010…The Knights and Rams have met in the conference final seven times with Farmingdale State winning all seven, including four in Newburgh…Alyssa Parrotta was named the championship's Most Outstanding Player.
