Newburgh, N.Y. – Junior
Joey Dolan (New Paltz, N.Y.) continued his torrid scoring pace on Tuesday with the Knights' only goal in a 1-0 Skyline Conference win over Sarah Lawrence. The win gave the Knights their third straight victory, with Dolan scoring the team's last seven goals.
Neither team could find a goal in the opening 45 minutes, with the Knights holding a 7-4 lead in shots overall. Although Sarah Lawrence did not put a shot on target, Camary Jonas had a pair of strong scoring chances for the Gryphons prior to halftime.
With the game scoreless and just shy of 20 minutes left in regulation, Dolan scored the lone goal of the contest following a free kick. Junior
Connor Lynch (Clifton Park, N.Y.) found Dolan who tucked a shot inside the near post at 72:16 for his team leading 11
th goal of the season.
Dolan matched his career-high for goals in a season on Tuesday and moved to within two tallies of tying the career record at the Mount with his 26
th career marker. He has scored each of the Knights' last seven goals and is one goal off the Skyline Conference lead.
Lynch picked up his third assist of the season, joining
Fred Stark (Hollis, N.Y.) as the team leaders in the category. Stark,
Matt Fuge (Avon, Conn.) and Stephen Beleno (Newburgh, N.Y.) each finished the night with three shots for the Mount.
Freshman
Tyler Rapp (East Berne, N.Y.) recorded his first career shutout in the win without being forced to make a save. His goals against average dropped to a team-best 1.32 with Tuesday's effort. Mehran Hicks rounded out the night with 11 stops for the Gryphons.
At 6-5 overall on the season and 4-0 in conference play, the Mount will vie for its fourth straight win on Saturday when it travels to Old Westbury. Kick-off with the Panthers is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
