Flushing, N.Y. – Playing in its first Skyline Conference Championship Final since 2012, the Mount Saint Mary College Women's Tennis team fell to top-seeded Yeshiva on Sunday by a score of 5-1. The second doubles pair of
Charlotte Pascual (Freeport, N.Y.) and
Dorothy Tighe (Walden, N.Y.) picked up the team's only win of the day.
Mount Saint Mary found itself down 2-1 following doubles play with Pascual and Tighe outlasting Yeshiva's Rachel Slater and Andrea Weiss, 8-6. The duo moved to 9-6 on the season, joining the top pair of
Michelle Carnovale (Massapequa, N.Y.) and
Victoria Clay (Saint James, N.Y.) for the team lead in wins with nine.
The top pair dropped a heartbreaker on Sunday, falling 8-6 after a back-and-forth affair. Carnovale and Clay were tied with Shani Hava and Rebecca Packer at 6-6, before the Maccabees were able to pull away with the final two points.
Three singles matches were completed on Sunday, with the top flight clinching the win for the Maccabees. Hava topped Carnovale in the deciding match 6-1, 6-4, with Michal Ladenheim beating MIyanna Vernon (Liberty, N.Y.) at the sixth position by scores of 6-3, 6-0 before
Antonietta Capone (Howard Beach, N.Y.) fell at the third position by scores of 6-0, 6-1.
Sunday's loss finishes off the fall season for the Knights with an 8-9 overall record.
