Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Tennis team closed the regular season on Sunday with a hard fought 5-4 loss to visiting Pratt. Sophomore
Michelle Carnovale (Massapequa, N.Y.) and freshman
Julia Lorenzo (Emerald Isle, N.C.) posted singles wins for the Mount.
Carnovale moved to 11-4 in singles matches on the season with a 10-4 first position win for the Knights. The victory is her second straight and gives her eight wins in her last 10 decisions overall.
Lorenzo won her second match of the season in as many decisions at the sixth position. She posted a 10-3 victory for the Mount on Sunday.
In doubles play, the second and third pairs posted wins for the Knights. Seniors
Charlotte Pascual (Freeport, N.Y.) and
Dorothy Tighe (Walden, N.Y.) scored an 8-6 win at the second position, while
Antonietta Capone (Howard Beach, N.Y.) and
Miyanna Vernon (Liberty, N.Y.) posted an 8-3 triumph at the third spot.
At 7-8 overall on the season, Mount Saint Mary returns to action in the semifinal round of the Skyline Conference Championship on Wednesday. The Knights will travel to St. Joseph's-L.I. for a 5:00 p.m. match with the Golden Eagles.
