Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Tennis team evened its overall record on Friday with a 7-2 non-conference win over Brooklyn.
Victoria Clay (Saint James, N.Y.) and
Dorothy Tighe (Walden, N.Y.) each won their third straight decisions in the win.
Clay scored her ninth singles win of the season on Friday and moved to 6-4 at the fourth position with a 6-4, 6-3 win for the Knights. Tighe picked up her third straight win at the fifth position with a hard fought 6-1, 5-7, 10-5 win.
Sophomore
Michelle Carnovale (Massapequa, N.Y.) won her team leading 10
th match of the season on Friday with a 6-2, 6-4 first singles victory. She moves to 10-4 on the season at the top flight and to 8-2 in her last 10 decisions.
Freshman
Antonietta Capone (Howard Beach, N.Y.) outlasted her opponent from Brooklyn at the third position with a 6-2, 3-6, 11-9 victory and
Miyanna Vernon (Liberty, N.Y.) continued her strong sophomore campaign with a 6-0, 6-4 sixth singles win, improving to 8-4 on the season.
The Knights opened the match with two doubles wins, taking the first and third contests. Carnovale and Clay moved to 9-5 on the season with an 8-2 win at first doubles, while Vernnon and Capone scored an 8-6 victory at the third position for the Knights.
Friday's win pushes Mount Saint Mary to 7-7 overall on the season. The Knights close out the regular season on Sunday when they play host to Pratt. Match time with the Cannoneers is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
