Mount Saint Mary Collects Third Straight Victory

Gries records double-double

Newburgh, N.Y. The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Volleyball team picked up its first home win of the season and ran its winning streak to three matches on Thursday with a 25-11, 25-18, 25-19 non-conference win over SUNY Delhi. Junior Kim Gries (Hicksville, N.Y.) finished the night with her fourth double-double of the season, matching the team-high in the category.
 
Mount Saint Mary did not trail in the match until the early stages of the third set and finished the night hitting .238 as a team. The Knights held the visitors to a -.021 attack percentage, including a -.320 mark in the opening set.
 
Eleven different players finished the win with a kill for the Knights, led by seven to go along with a .583 attack percentage from Nicole Spienlli (Wantagh, N.Y.). Spinelli finished off a strong night with an ace, two digs and four total blocks.
 
Senior Megan Williams (Glenmont, N.Y.) finished the match with six winners for the Knights, hitting .400, to go along with a pair of blocks and five digs, while Danielle Kralik (Bedford Hills, N.Y.) totaled six kills and a pair of aces. Sophomore Madelyn Barberan (Fishkill, N.Y.) put away five kills for the Knights to go along with an ace and a block.
 
Gries finished off her fourth double-double of the season with a match-high 27 assists and 10 digs, with Julimar Figueroa (Dorado, Puerto Rico) leading the team in digs with 11 and service aces with three.
 
Delhi was led by seven winners from Kristen Maslanka with Kyoko Shimizu leading all players with 18 digs in the match.
 
Overall, Mount Saint Mary held the edge in kills 34-20, service aces 9-3 and total team blocks 5-1.
 
Thursday's win pushes Mount Saint Mary to 9-16 overall on the season. The Knights will be off until October 19 when they welcome FDU-Florham to the Kaplan Center. Match time with the Devils is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
