Schenectady, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Tennis team traveled to former Skyline Conference rival Sage on Wednesday and suffered a 6-3 non-conference decision to the Gators. Freshman
Victoria Clay (Saint James, N.Y.) picked up her eighth singles win of the season for the Knights.
Clay was one of only two players to pick up a singles win on the day for the Knights, posting a 6-2, 6-0 win at the third position on Wednesday. The victory gives Clay a perfect 3-0 record at third singles on the year and an 8-4 singles record overall.
Playing in her second match of the season, freshman
Jessalyn Goetz (Bethel, N.Y.) collected her second singles win. She battled her way to a 6-0, 3-6, 10-8 win at the sixth position for the Mount's only other singles victory of the afternoon.
The top doubles pair of
Michelle Carnovale (Massapequa, N.Y.) and Clay scored the Knights other win of the match, outlasting Sammantha Montague and Rebecca Jackson from Sage by a score of 8-7 (7-4). The win gives the duo an 8-5 record on the year.
Wednesday's loss drops Mount Saint Mary below .500 on the season overall at 6-7. The Knights return to action on Friday when they welcome Brooklyn to Newburgh. Match time with the Bulldogs is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
