Flushing, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Tennis team closed out conference play on Tuesday night with a 9-0 victory at St. Joseph's-Brooklyn. The win secured a berth in the Skyline Conference Championship for the Knights, their first since the 2013 season.
The Mount dropped just three singles games on the night against the Lady Bears and cruised to three doubles wins. The top doubles pair of
Michelle Carnovale (Massapequa, N.Y.) and
Victoria Clay (Saint James, N.Y.) posted an 8-4 win, with
Charlotte Pascual (Freeport, N.Y.) and
Dorothy Tighe (Walden, N.Y.) along with Antionetta Capone (Howard Beach, N.Y.) and
Julia Lorenzo (Emerald Isle, N.C.) posting 8-0 wins and the second and third positions, respectively.
Third through sixth singles each blanked their opponents on the evening, with Capone, Clay, Tighe and
Jessalyn Goetz (Bethel, N.Y.) picking up 6-0, 6-0 wins on Tuesday. Goetz collected her first career win for the Knights with her victory at sixth singles.
Carnovale moved to 9-3 on the season at first singles with a 6-1, 6-0 victory for the Knights, with Pascual scoring a 6-0, 6-2 victory at the second position, collecting her fifth singles win of the campaign.
Tuesday's win evens the Mount's overall record at 6-6 and its league mark at 3-3. Next up for the Knights is a non-conference clash at Sage on Wednesday afternoon. Match time with the Gators is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
