Knights Travel To Maritime, Host Delhi

Knights coming off first league win of the season

Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Volleyball team continues conference play on the road at Maritime on Tuesday before closing the week with a non-conference home match with SUNY Delhi on Thursday. At A Glance: The Mount picked up its first league win of the season with a 3-0 victory over Old Westbury on Sunday, but stands at 1-3 in the Skyline Conference and 7-16 overall. The Knights have won three of their last five outings, with the two losses coming against USMMA and the College of Mount Saint Vincent.
 
Mount Saint Mary features three players with better than 100 kills on the season, led by 124 winners from sophomore Morgan Burke (Ringwood, N.J.). Madelyn Barberan (Fishkill, N.Y.) enters the week with 116 winners, with Nicole Spinelli (Wantagh, N.Y.) putting away 113 kills to date for the Knights.
 
Spinelli paces the team with 44 service aces heading into Tuesday's tilt and is second on the team with 34 total blocks. Burke paces the Knights with 39 total blocks thus far with senior Julimar Figueroa (Dorado, Puerto Rick) leading the team with 286 digs.
 
Junior Kim Gries (Hicksville, N.Y.) begins the week with 462 assists, good for 7.22 helpers per set, and ranks first in the conference in total assists and second among the league leaders in assists per set. She also has 103 digs for the Mount.
 
Last Time Out: The Knights split a pair of Skyline Conference matches on Sunday, falling in straight sets to the College of Mount Saint Vincent before rallying for a 3-0 blanking of Old Westbury. Burke led the Knights with seven kills and a .313 attack percentage in the win, while Gries handed out 23 assists to go along with three service aces. Figueroa led the way with 21 digs for the Mount.
 
Scouting Maritime: The Privateers enter Tuesday's match at an even 8-8 overall and 2-2 in Skyline Conference play. Maritime has split its last four outings, with the wins coming over league rival Purchase and York.
 
Shannon Brady leads the offensive attack for Maritime with 169 kills, while hitting .281, to go along with 32 service aces. Erika Kirchner has handed out 381 assists to date, while Gabrielle Kempski has lifted a team-high 140 digs. Meredith Hayes paces the team in blocking with 14 heading into Tuesday's tilt.
 
Previewing Delhi: The Broncos enter a Wednesday match with Southern Vermont at 5-11 overall. Delhi has won its last two outings heading into Wednesday's match, sweeping both Johnson State and Green Mountain.
 
The Broncos feature a different team leader in each category, with Kristen Maslanka pacing the team in kills with 92. Emma King has handed out a team-high 257 assists, while Taylor Tsatsis has recorded 37 service aces. Kyoko Shimizu leads the way with 191 digs and Haylee Lefebvre is one of three players with at least 20 blocks, posting a team-high 22.
 
What's Next: Thursday's match begins a four match home stand for the Mount that continues with FDU-Florham on October 19 and Skyline Conference rivals St. Joseph's-Brooklyn and Purchase on October 21.
