Men’s Basketball Tripped Up At Mount Saint Vincent

Nine Knights find scoring column in loss

Riverdale, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Men's Basketball team was upended on the road at the College of Mount Saint Vincent on Saturday afternoon by a score of 57-52. Junior Tyler McDine (Suffern, N.Y.) led nine different scorers with 10 points in the contest.
 
In a tightly contested first half that saw the Knights trail by as many as six points, the Mount scored 18 of the final 28 points of the period to carry a 32-25 lead into halftime. The Knights put together a 9-1 run late in the opening stanza, capped by a T.J. Patsalos (Newburgh, N.Y.) bucket, to take their largest lead of the game, a 32-22 advantage, with 97 seconds left before the intermission.
 
Mount Saint Mary shot an even 50-percent from the floor in the opening 20 minutes and went 4-for-9 from three-point range to build the seven point advantage. Jovin Ramos (Secaucus, N.J.) came off the bench to lead the Mount in scoring before halftime with seven points.
 
Mount Saint Mary opened the lead back to nine points in the opening minute of the second half on a Connor Nicholson (Staten Island, N.Y.) jumper, but the Dolphins used a 13-1 run over nearly seven minute to pull in front 40-37 on a David Collins lay-in with 11:55 left in regulation.
 
Mount Saint Vincent pulled in front by six points on a pair of Myron Hickman free-throws, before a 10-4 run from the Knights evened the score at 51-51 with 2:12 left in regulation. McDine evened the score to cap the run with a jumper and scored four points over the stretch.
 
The Dolphins answered right back and took the lead for good in the game with a pair of Jose Maestre free-throws and went 6-for-6 from the free-throw line in the final 1:50 to close out the victory.
 
The Knights were held to 27.3-percent shooting after halftime, while the Dolphins converted at 55-percent. Mount Saint Mary finished the game shooting 39.6-percent and went 4-for-14 from behind the arc. The Mount misfired on seven free-throws in the game and finished at 58.8-percent from the free-throw line.
 
McDine was the lone Knight to score in double-figures and added an assist. Patsalos finished with nine points and joined Gerard Nocera (Holmdel, N.J.) with a team-high five rebounds. Nocera rounded out the game with seven points and failed to score in double-figures for the first time since November 20. Nicholson led the Mount with three assists.
 
Mount Saint Vincent, who shot 46.7-percent in the game, was led by 14 points from Matthew Sowah and 10 points, seven rebounds and four assists from Andrew Curiel. Claudio Nmezi led all players in the game with eight rebounds.
 
Saturday's loss drops Mount Saint Mary to 10-7 and to 5-4 in conference play. The Knights will return home on Tuesday when they welcome St. Joseph's-L.I. to the Kaplan Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
