Mount Saint Mary Overwhelms St. Joseph’s-Brooklyn

Trio of Knights net double-figures

Newburgh, N.Y. – Jessica Rini (Seaford, N.Y.) and Megan Kerutis (Merrimack, N.H.) combined for 30 points and sophomore Elizabeth Limonta (Stewart Manor, N.Y.) scored a season-high 10 points as the Mount Saint Mary College Women's Basketball team cruised to their fourth straight win with a 76-47 triumph over St. Joseph's-Brooklyn.
 
The Knights never trailed in the game and after allowing the Bears to within three points midway through the first quarter, they used an 11-2 spurt to open the second stanza to move in front 25-11 with 4:59 left before halftime. Kerutis led four Mount Saint Mary scorers over the run with four points.
 
After stretching the lead to double-figures in the second period, the Mount did not allow St. Joseph's closer than 10 points the remainder of the evening and closed the first half on a 13-3 run , capped by a Kassidy Hallum (Lake Grove, N.Y.) triple at the horn that sent the Knights into the intermission with a 38-16 advantage.
 
Mount Saint Mary shot 36.4-percent in the opening 20 minutes on Tuesday and went 4-for-8 form behind the arc. Kerutis led the scoring attack with 10 points, going 3-for-5 from the floor and knocking down a pair of three-pointers.
 
The Knights' lead grew to 29 points on a Rini conversion early in the third frame and the advantage did not get under 22 points the rest of the way. A Taylor Whiffen (Wading River, N.Y.) bucket with just under four minutes left gave the Mount it largest lead of the night, a 33 point bulge at 72-39.
 
Mount Saint Mary had 11 different players find the scoring column in the game, led by 16 points on 7-for-12 shooting from Rini who totaled three blocked shots. Kerutis finished with 14 points on a 5-for-10 effort from the field to go along with three rebounds and two assists.
 
Limonta reached season-highs in points with 10 and rebounds with nine in the win, going 5-for-6 from the floor. Kayla Cleare (West Hempstead, N.Y.) finished up with nine points and nine rebounds with Bridget Kelly (Farmington, Conn.) adding eight boards for the Knights.
 
Mount Saint Mary shot 44.6-percent overall in the game, its third highest conversion rate of the season, and outrebounded the Bears 54-35 in the game, including 19-11 on the offensive glass. The Knights rounded out the victory with a 30-12 edge in paint points and a 23-8 advantage in second chance scoring.
 
Tuesday's win pushes Mount Saint Mary to 12-3 overall on the season and to 8-1 in conference play. The Knights will close out the season series with Sage on Saturday when they travel to Albany for a 1:00 p.m. tip-off with the Gators.
