Mount Saint Mary Topped By #14 Stevens

Riley makes season-high 11 saves

Hoboken, N.J. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Soccer team closed a three game road trip to open the 2016 season on Tuesday with a 7-0 road loss at #14 Stevens. Junior goalkeeper Mary Riley (Newburgh, N.Y.) finished the game with a season-high 11 saves.
 
Stevens got on the board with a pair of quick goals inside the first 15 minutes of play on Tuesday on its way to a 3-0 lead at halftime. Zisi Komar potted the eventual game winner in the 12th minute and Julia Panko added her second tally of the year just over two minutes later. Gabby Mathelier's first of two goals in the game closed out the scoring in the first half at the 29:25 mark of the tilt.
 
The Ducks outshot the Mount by 10 in the opening 45 minutes, finishing the opening stanza with a 14-4 edge in shots and a 4-0 advantage in corner kicks. Riley made seven stops for the Knights prior to halftime.
 
Stevens added four more goals in the second half on Tuesday, including Mathelier's second of the game and fifth of the season late in regulation. Raba Nassif added two goals after halftime for the Ducks, who moved to 3-0-0 on the season.
 
Mathelier and Nassif each scored two goals in the game for Stevens, with Nassif closing a five point game with an assist. Panko added a pair of helpers to her goal, with Komar and Gabriella Saade each adding tallies.
 
Junior Bridget McKeever (Wallkill, N.Y.) led the Knights with four shots on Tuesday and joined sophomore Jackie Davis (Islip Terrace, N.Y.) with a shot on goal. Allison Jones (Merrick, N.Y.) recorded a pair of attempts and Claire Newman (Cromwell, Conn.) added a shot for the Knights.
 
Riley recorded four more saves after halftime to reach double-figures in stops for the first time in the 2016 sesaon. She now has 22 saves in three games played. Madi Chollett earned the win with a pair of saves for the Ducks.
 
Stevens finished the game with a 27-8 advantage in shots, including an 18-2 edge in shots on goal. Corner kicks went to the Ducks 6-4, with the Knights holding a 4-2 advantage in the category in the second half.
 
At 0-3 overall on the season, Mount Saint Mary will open the home schedule on Friday against New Paltz. The first game of the 2016 Mount Saint Mary Tournament is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
