Newburgh, N.Y. – A day after returning to the win column after a three match slide, the Mount Saint Mary College Women's Tennis team picked up its second straight 9-0 victory on Saturday at home against St. Joseph's-Brooklyn. Freshman
Michelle Carnovale (Massapequa, N.Y.) remained perfect on the season in singles play at the first position.
In her seventh career collegiate match, Carnovale posted an impressive 6-1, 6-2 triumph at the top flight to move to 7-0 in singles action on the season. She is the lone Mount Saint Mary player without a blemish in singles action and has won seven of the team's 25 singles matches on the season.
Senior
Alissa Gileau (East Granby, Conn.) moved to 2-3 in singles play on Saturday, taking down her opponent 6-3, 6-2 at the second position. Classmate
Isabella Tartaglione (Pine Bush, N.Y.) also picked up her second singles win of the season against the Bears, recording a 6-0, 6-1 third singles victory.
Sophomore
Mikayla Zaccaria (Point Lookout, N.Y.) scored a 6-1, 6-1 fourth singles win for the Knights to move to 5-2 overall on the season, while newcomers
Miyanna Vernon (Liberty, N.Y.) and
Dorothy Tighe (Walden, N.Y.) each posted 6-0, 6-0 triumphs at the fifth and sixth positions.
In doubles play, the third pair of Zaccaria and Vernon cruised to an 8-0 win while the tops two pairs eased to 8-1 victories. The top pair of Carnovale and Gileau posted their fifth win together on the season, while Tartaglione and Tighe moved to 2-1 as a tandem in 2016.
At 3-4 overall and 2-1 in Skyline Conference play, the Knights will close out a three match weekend home stand on Sunday when they play host to Plattsburgh. Match time with the Cardinals is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
