Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Tennis team returned home after a three match road swing an stopped a three match slide with a convincing 9-0 non-conference win over New Rochelle. The Knights won all six singles matches on the day by 6-0, 6-0 scores.
A pair of Knights picked up their first singles wins of the season on Friday and freshman
Michelle Carnovale (Massapequa, N.Y.) continued her unbeaten streak to start the season. Carnovale won at the first position for the sixth straight time to start the season to move to a perfect 6-0 on the year.
Charlotte Pascual (Freeport, N.Y.) moved to 1-5 overall on the season and 1-1 at second singles with a 6-0, 6-0 win and
Isabella Tartaglione (Pine Bush, N.Y.) moved to 1-1 at third singles with another unblemished 6-0, 6-0 victory.
Dorothy Tighe (Walden, N.Y.) moved to 2-2 overall on the season in singles action with a win at the sixth position, while
Mikayla Zaccaria (Point Lookout, N.Y.) and
Miyanna Vernon (Liberty, N.Y.) continued the strong starts to their seasons at fourth and fifth singles, respectively. Zaccaria improved to 4-2 on the season and Vernon moved her record to 4-1.
The only game the Knights lost on the day came in the first doubles match, but the pair of Carnovale and
Alissa Gileau (East Granby, Conn.) moved to 4-2 on the season with an impressive 8-1 victory at the top flight.
Tartaglione and Pascual as well as Zaccaria and Tighe teamed for 8-0 victories at the second and third doubles position to get the Knights off to a 3-0 start in the match.
At 2-4 overall on the season, the Mount will return to conference play on Saturday when they play host to St. Joseph's-Brooklyn. Match time with the Bears is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
