Women’s Volleyball Downed By Fredonia, Stevens at New Paltz Invitational

Maddock named to All-Tournament Team

New Paltz, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Volleyball team closed out play at the New Paltz Invitational on Saturday with a 20-25, 12-25, 18-25 loss to Fredonia and a 4-25, 16-25, 29-31 defeat at the hands of Stevens. Senior setter Kristen Maddock (Patchogue, N.Y.) was named to the event's All-Tournament Team after totaling 25 assists on Saturday.
 
In the opener against Fredonia, senior Angelia Cirigliano (Newburgh, N.Y.) paced the Knights with 11 of the team's 21 kills to go along with seven digs. Freshman Madelyn Barberan (Fishkill, N.Y.) lifted a team-high nine digs in the match and Maddock handed out 17 assists.
 
Junior Megan Williams (Glenmont, N.Y.) paced the Knights with four service aces, while freshman Morgan Burke (Ringwood, N.J.) totaled four blocks. Barberan closed out a solid match with three aces for the Knights.
 
Fredonia was led by 10 winners from Kristen Stanek as the Blue Devils hit .295 as a team. Hallie Christopher led all players with 35 assists, while Rachel Poirier led the match with 15 digs.
 
Overall, Fredonia held a 37-21 advantage in kills and a slim 5-4 edge in total team blocks. Mount Saint Mary won the service aces battle 10-5.
 
In the finale against the Ducks, Williams led the Knights with five kills, with Burke and Rachel Sabatini (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) each putting away four winners. Sabatini led the team with three aces to go along with five digs, while Burke collected a solo block.
 
Barberan lifted a team-high 10 digs against Stevens and added two aces, while Maddock posted eight assists and a digs.
 
Stevens received nine kills each from Brianna Evans and Emily Piekarski with Evans also leading the team with nine digs. Brianna Perez handed out a match-high 26 assists, while Casey King paced the team with three service aces.
 
Stevens finished the match with a 34-16 advantage in kills and a 12-6 edge in service aces, while the Mount posted a 2-1 advantage in total team blocks.
 
Following Saturday's results, Mount Saint Mary stands at 1-8 overall. The Knights will return to the court on Wednesday when they open their home schedule against Bard. Match time with the Raptors is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
