Purchase, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Baseball team suffered its sixth straight loss on Wednesday following a 14-7 non-conference loss at Manhattanville. Senior
Kristopher Fragomeni (Beacon, N.Y.) and sophomore
Charles Todd (Warwick, N.Y.) each picked up two hits for the Knights.
Mount Saint Mary jumped out to a 3-0 lead in its first at-bat on Wednesday.
Jimmy Papineau (Pleasant Valley, N.Y.) scored on a wild pitch for the first run and Fragomeni came home on a groundball to shortstop to give the Knights a 2-0 lead.
Vincenzo Pepe (Middletown, N.Y.) closed out the scoring in the inning with a run scoring single.
The Valiants answered with five runs in each of the first and the second innings. Robbie Lynch keyed the big first inning with a run scoring walk and a steal of home with Joe Anselmi delivering a two run single in the five run second inning.
Mount Saint Mary got back on the board in the third with three more runs. Fragomeni pounded his first home run of the season to open the scoring in the frame, while
Tom Huvane (Eastchester, N.Y.) scored on a wild pitch and
Blake Keenan (Fishkill, N.Y.) scored on a Manhattanville miscue to bring the Mount to within 10-6.
Manhattanville answered a Mount Saint Mary big inning for the second time with four more runs in the third to build a 14-6 advantage. Lynch and Kurt Hommen recorded run scoring hits in the inning and Luke Scoggins and Chris Conklin drove in runs with sacrifice flies.
The Valiants outhit the Mount 14-7 and had four players with two hits in the contest. Lynch, Anselmi, Matt Coleman and Hommen each finished with a pair of safeties and two RBI in the game for Manhattanville.
Fragomeni rounded out the day 2-for-4 with a home run and two runs scored. Todd went 2-for-4, with Papineau picking up a hit and scoring two runs. Keenan scored a run and drove in a pair for the Knights on Wednesday.
Joseph Pillitteri (Wallkill, N.Y.) suffered the loss in the game, working 1.1 innings and allowing eight earned runs on three hits. Thomas Contrelli picked up the win for the Valiants, working 5.0 scoreless innings in relief.
Wednesday's loss drops Mount Saint Mary to 5-15 overall on the season. Next up is a road conference set at Purchase on Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for 11:00 a.m.
