Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Tennis team returned to action on Tuesday evening, dropping a non-conference home match to John Jay by a score of 5-4. Junior
Alissa Gileau (East Granby, Conn.) and freshman
Mikayla Zaccaria (Point Lookout, N.Y.) recorded singles wins for the Knights in the match.
Playing at the third position, Gileau posted an 8-2 win for the Knights, moving to 7-7 overall in singles matches and 6-5 at the third spot this season. Zaccaria collected the Mount's only other singles win on Tuesday with an 8-0 sweep at sixth singles. The win moved the rookie to 10-4 on the season for the Knights in singles play.
Mount Saint Mary also picked up a pair of doubles wins against the Bloodhounds in their spring opener.
Isabella Tartaglione (Pine Bush, N.Y.) and
Mallory Menneci (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) scored an 8-4 win at second doubles, while Gileau and Zaccaria teamed up for an 8-3 triumph at the third position.
Tuesday's loss drops Mount Saint Mary to 4-10 overall on the season. The Knights will return to action on Thursday when they travel to Rutgers-Newark. Match time is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
