Mount Saint Mary Eases Past Mount Saint Vincent, 19-4

Eight different Knights score in road win

Riverdale, N.Y. – Led by six goals from Katie Gattoni (Old Tappan, N.Y.), the Mount Saint Mary College Women's Lacrosse team cruised to a road Skyline Conference win at Mount Saint Vincent on Tuesday evening by a score of 19-4. Gattoni was one of eight different goal scorers for the Knights in the win.
 
After the Dolphins scored the first goal of the game inside the first minute of play, the Knights answered with three straight goals to take the lead for good in the contest. Alicia Forgione scored her second of the game for Mount Saint Vincent to break the run, before the Mount finished the half on a 8-0 stretch to carry an 11-2 lead into halftime.
 
The Knights outshot the Dolphins 17-3 in the opening 30 minutes and won the groundball battle 19-10 prior to halftime. The Dolphins finished the first half with an 8-6 advantage in draw controls.
 
Mount Saint Mary continued its scoring run into the second half, netting the first four goals of the second period to open a 15-2 advantage on a Shannon McGuinness (Oceanside, N.Y.) goal with 21:32 remaining in the regulation time.
 
Forgione stopped the Mount Saint Mary run at 12 goals with her third of the game with just under 20 minutes left in the contest, but the Knights scored four of the final five goals of the game to secure the win. Jamie Monachino (Staten Island, N.Y.) scored her first career goal for the Knights with 16:39 left to play.
 
Gattoni moved her team lead in goals to 53 and in points to 65 with her six goal effort against the Dolphins. McGuinness and Jen Gries (Hicksville, N.Y.) each scored three goals, with Jennifer Bones (Camden, Del.) and Julia Fitzpatrick (Shelton, Conn.) each potting two goals.
 
Senior Claire Duffy (Monroe, N.Y.) finished off a solid all-around game with a goal and four assists, adding three draw controls and three caused turnovers. Shannon Root (Wildwood, Mo.) caused a team-high five turnovers and Christina Ryan (Franklin Square, N.Y.) scooped a team-high seven groundballs.
 
Forgione scored all four goals for Mount Saint Vincent with Molly Francis picking up an assist. Courtney LaTorre led the Dolphins with five caused turnovers and four groundballs.
 
Amanda Picillo (Valley Stream, N.Y.) picked up the win in goal for Mount Saint Mary after being forced to make just a single save. She added a groundball in the win for the Knights. Kaitlin McGeown suffered the loss for the Dolphins, stopping seven shots.
 
Mount Saint Mary finished the game with a commanding 30-6 advantage in shots, including a 26-5 edge in shots on goal. The Knights also dominated groundballs, 31-13 and won the draw control battle 16-9 after winning 10 of the 11 contested in the second half.
 
Tuesday's win improves Mount Saint Mary to 6-8 overall on the season and to 2-4 in Skyline Conference play. The Knights will close out the regular season on Saturday when they play host to Maritime. Opening Draw is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
