Newburgh, N.Y. – Junior
Katie Gattoni (Old Tappan, N.J.) totaled 11 points and matched the career goals record on Saturday in an impressive 20-7 home win over Maritime on Senior Day. Gattoni finished the game with five goals and stands tied atop the career leaderboard with 170.
After Maritime stopped a four goal run from the Knights to start the game with two straight goals in the middle stages of the first half, the Knights erupted for 10 goals in the final 15:23 of the first half to carry a commanding 14-3 lead into the intermission.
Seniors
Jen Gries (Hicksville, N.Y.) and
Shannon McGuinness (Oceanside, N.Y.) each scored three times in the opening 30 minutes and the Knights outshot Maritime 19-5 prior to halftime. The Knights also took groundballs 10-6 in the first half and draw controls 11-7.
Mount Saint Mary continued where it left of in the first half coming out the break, scoring the first three goals of the second stanza and added a second three goal run to pull in front 20-4 on Gattoni's fifth of the game with 9:24 left in regulation time.
Gattoni rounded out the game with five goals and assisted on six others to finish the season with 58 goals and 76 points. Gries finished with four goals for the Knights, with McGuinness scoring three times and
Claire Duffy (Monroe, N.Y.) and
Christina Ryan (Franklin Square, N.Y.) adding two goals each.
Duffy finished the game with 10 groundballs, five caused turnovers and five draw controls and will leave the program as the all-time leader in all three categories with 206 groundballs, 203 draw controls and 109 caused turnovers. McGuinness added four draw controls and
Amanda Clemens (Baldwin, N.Y.) finished with a goal, two draw controls and two caused turnovers.
Maritime was led by two goals each from Krista Deleva and Caroline Reynolds, with Deleva adding an assist and five draw controls.
Freshman
Amanda Picillo (Valley Stream, N.Y.) earned the win in goal with seven saves, adding a pair of groundballs. Meghin Paczkowski wrapped up the game with seven stops for Maritime.
Mount Saint Mary finished the game with a 30-17 advantage in shots a 22-12 edge in groundballs and a slim 16-13 advantage in draw controls.
Saturday's win closes Mount Saint Mary's season at 7-8 overall and a 3-4 in conference play.
