Women’s Lacrosse Topped By St. Joseph’s-L.I.

Gattoni nets three goals

Patchogue, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Lacrosse team fell for the sixth time in its last seven outings on Saturday following a 19-6 road conference loss at St. Joseph's-L.I. The Knights' offensive attack was led by three goals from junior Katie Gattoni (Old Tappan, N.J.).
 
Kayla Goman (Greenwich, N.Y.) opened the scoring for the Knights just 2:30 into the contest, but the Mount saw St. Joseph's rip off the next seven goals to open a six goal advantage. Gattoni got the Knights back on the board with 10:22 left before halftime, but the Golden Eagles scored six of the final seven goals of the first half to carry a 13-3 lead into the intermission.
 
Goman, Gattoni and Jen Gries (Hicksville, N.Y.) each scored one goal for the Knights who were outshot 21-4 in the first half. The Golden Eagles also doubled up the Knights in groundballs in the opening period 16-8, while draw controls were even at 8-8.
 
St. Joseph's built its lead to 15-3 with back-to-back goals to start the second half and maintained at least an 11 goal advantage the remainer of the contest. The Knights tallied back-to-back goals just once in the game, when Gattoni scored consecutive markers just over a minute apart in the middle stages of the second half.
 
Gattoni was the only player to score more than one goal for the Knights, spreading her team lead in the category to 47. Four different players picked up a pair of groundballs for the Knights, including Claire Duffy (Monroe, N.Y.) who joined Morgan Cordes (Sound Beach, N.Y.) with three draw controls.
 
The Golden Eagles were led by four assists and six points from Jessica Cordano, who added a game-high five groundballs and four caused turnovers. Jenna Kelleher closed a strong day with six draw controls and three goals.
 
Freshman Amanda Picillo (Valley Stream, N.Y.) finished with five saves for the Knights, while Lindsay Ramos picked up the win with a single stop in 43 minutes of work.
 
Overall, St. Joseph's finished the day with a 28-13 advantage in shots and a 21-14 edge in groundballs. Draw controls in the game were even at 13.
 
Saturday's loss drops Mount Saint Mary to 5-8 overall on the season and to 1-4 in Skyline Conference play. Net up for the Knights is a trip to Mount Saint Vincent on Tuesday. Opening Draw in Riverdale is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
